Supporting the Scrap Trident Coalition
Posted March 26, 2013 By Green MSPs
Scottish Greens today joined forces with other MSPs and campaigners in calling for action against Trident renewal, supporting the Scrap Trident Coalition.
The Scrap Trident coalition is calling for the UK to disarm Trident and not replace it with any other nuclear weapons system. It also supports calls for Scotland to lead the way to a truly nuclear free world.
The coalition is organising a weekend of action, consisting of a national demonstration against Trident in Glasgow on Saturday 13th April and a mass blockade of Faslane Naval Base on Monday 15th April.

Patrick Harvie commented:
“An attack using the normal complement on a Clyde-based Trident submarine would result in 5.4 million deaths. It is appalling that Scotland continues to host these weapons of mass destruction.
“Scottish Greens remain proud of the fact that a debate we led in the last session of parliament resulted in a historic vote against the renewal of Trident. To go ahead with a replacement would be morally bankrupt.
“We need to send a message loud and clear that it is time to set aside a cold war era mentality, and instead focus on the real threats to human security, like climate change, global poverty and injustice.”
