ioby | ioby brings environmental projects to life, block by block. | Yellow Boat Social Entrepreneurism | Scoop.it

That’s right! As of today, ioby is now officially national.

Now anyone anywhere in the U.S. who has a big idea (or even a faint glimmer of an idea) for environmental change in his or her neighborhood can now use ioby to raise money, connect with local volunteers and share ideas to a community of people who might not live near you but who care about all the things you do.

Get started today by posting your project on ioby.org/idea. Or, if you’re not quite ready to lead a project just yet, then search around the map, find a project that’s close to your home or close to your heart, and drop a dollar or ten to their success. They’ll appreciate it and you’ll be joining the ranks of thousands of ioby micro-donors who give a little to make a big change.

RT @kickofflabs: 150 Resources for Tech Startups including @kickofflabs | DailyTekk http://t.co/mJ3I7I3h < Thanks guys!

From getting inspired to hiring an awesome team to moving out of your garage into a more functional workspace, this post is designed to be a bookmark-able resource (that we’ll keep updated over time) to help you get a good start. While I did include some crowd funding resources, I purposefully left out venture and angel sources because I feel that it’s really about who you know and your own personal network when it comes to raising that kind of capital. Just build a great product and focus on making the right connections. Along those lines, I did include some great tools for researching and testing your product and pitching your ideas once the time is right.

Let’s Colour Project adds colour to the Gawad Kalinga Village - Events -

Let’s Colour Project adds colour to the Gawad Kalinga Village - Events - | Yellow Boat Social Entrepreneurism | Scoop.it
Let's Colour project has already created a better living environment for many people around the world. Join the movement!

The Let’s Colour Project event in the Philippines worked with Tony Meloto and his organisation, Gawad Kalinga to help build integrated, holistic and sustainable communities in slum areas of the country.

We helped add colour to the lives of people who are less fortunate and also helped bring back the spirit of “bayanihan”, the willingness to share heavy workloads for your fellow countrymen of the Philippines.

The Let's Colour Project provided paint for 24 houses in the Gawad Kalinga Village. The colour scheme comprised of green, blue & yellow which brings the message of happiness, peacefulness to local community. The event happened over 2 days in Jun & Sep 2010. It involved 11 AkzoNobel volunteers, and 30 Gawad Kalinga staff and local contractors.

The residents of Gawad Kalinga are now very happy with their new homes and colourful environment.

Build a Greener Block Downtown: the fantasy and reality; imagine what a bustling Main Street Las Vegas might look like

Build a Greener Block Downtown: the fantasy and reality; imagine what a bustling Main Street Las Vegas might look like | Yellow Boat Social Entrepreneurism | Scoop.it
Bringing the community together for neighborhood change is a well-traveled road in these parts.

The two-day pop-up urban environment, known as Build a Greener Block, was inspired by Better Block Rapid Urban Revitalization Projects and designed to show how a community can come together to change its neighborhoods.
It’s a good sentiment and something Downtowners already know plenty about, given their efforts in the Arts District over the years. Bringing the community together for neighborhood change is a well-traveled road in these parts. Trying to create a vibrant space has come with many triumphs and hurdles. It has been burdened by the kind of setbacks (such as the 2010 transformer explosion) that result in a need for nonprofit efforts demonstrating the collective fantasy of those who have ever imagined what a bustling Main Street Las Vegas might look like.

Grameen Foundation: Grameen Guidelines Download Request Form

Grameen Guidelines Download Request Form

We create economic opportunities for the world’s poorest.

Grameen Foundation provides microfinance institutions (MFIs) in poor communities with access to the capital they need to make micro-loans to those working to develop or expand a small business. In many of the poorest regions in the world, micro-business creation is the only way for families to escape poverty and build a better future for their children.
We build large-scale, easy-to-replicate solutions to end the cycle of poverty in developing countries around the world.
As clients repay their micro-loans, the funds are recycled into new loans, thus multiplying the number of poor people who can begin their journey out of poverty. Grameen Foundation develops and spreads technology and open-source software that can be used by professionals serving the poor to enhance efficiency and lower operating costs. Our mobile phone-based technology projects also fight "information poverty" and provide business opportunities for poor entrepreneurs.

4 Tips for Picking the Right Crowdfunding Platform

4 Tips for Picking the Right Crowdfunding Platform | Yellow Boat Social Entrepreneurism | Scoop.it
Crowdfunding presents a great opportunity for startups. Here are four things companies should consider when picking a crowdfunding source.

Ryan Caldbeck is the founder and CEO of CircleUp, an equity-based crowdfunding platform. Prior to CircleUp, Caldbeck was a private equity investor at Encore Consumer Capital and TSG Consumer Partners.

Raising capital is one of the most important, and intimidating, decisions in the life of a young company. Founders have long had to worry about questions around valuation, dilution, and the impact of potential investors. Now that the JOBS Act has been signed into law, a whole new set of opportunities has been opened through crowdfunding.

Clay Shirky Talks JOBS Act and the New Business Ecosystem

Clay Shirky Talks JOBS Act and the New Business Ecosystem | Yellow Boat Social Entrepreneurism | Scoop.it
Shirky explains why he “would love to be able to offer essentially wholehearted support of the crowdfunding law,” but has several reservations about the regulatory relief embedded in the bill.

Clay Shirky is an American writer, consultant and teacher on the social and economic effects of Internet technologies — at least, according to Wikipedia, the crowdsourced encyclopedia for which he serves as an advisor. Shirky is also the author of Here Comes Everybody (2008) and Cognitive Surplus (2010), two books examining the results, ramifications and potential of aggregated individual action.

Crowdsourcing.org recently spoke with web guru Clay Shirky about the JOBS Act, which President Obama signed into law on April 5. In the transcript below, Shirky explains why he “would love to be able to offer essentially wholehearted support of the crowdfunding law,” but has several reservations about the regulatory relief embedded in the bill. (Spoiler: Much comes down to the SEC’s interpretation of the law, which is ostensibly scheduled to conclude in the first few days of 2013.) Shirky also discusses Kickstarter’s present dominance in the crowdfunding space, the vagaries of pre-JOBS Act law in relation to crowdfunding, and the effect of the JOBS Act on the current startup ecosystem and traditional venture capital.
