Edible Cities - Urbaform Technologies

Edible Cities - Urbaform Technologies | Yellow Boat Social Entrepreneurism | Scoop.it
This video commissioned by the American Society of Landscape Architects, explores ways urban agriculture can be integrated into small spaces within cities. It's part of an online exhibition of animations and case studies about designing sustainable landscapes. Its animation offers a nice visualization of how empty urban spaces can be converted into active and food-producing spaces.

There's a "new normal" emerging in Las Vegas. It's growing out of decades of economic booms, and tempered in the collapse of the prosperity that the valley trusted to continue. Companies like Ayloo, whose founders are shown here, are part of the community that is Las Vegas today. Designed by Arañador and handcrafted by the residents of the PLDT-Smart Amazing Gawad Kalinga Village in Sooc, Arevalo District in Iloilo City, these bags are one of the outputs of Project Zero – a joint project of Smart, Arañador and Gawad Kalinga.

We called it Project Zero because it all started with nothing but a stock room full of used tarpaulin billboards and banners,” said Arañador. “And by using zero electricity and leaving behind zero waste, we managed to create green products that will help support the livelihood of the Gawad Kalinga residents in Sooc.”

The product launching was held at Arañador’s Nautilus Shop at D’Mall in Boracay, Aklan, where the products are now available to the island’s visitors and foreign tourists. Soon, the bags will be available in Gawad Kalinga’s GKonomics show rooms in key places across the country.

“When we started our partnership with Gawad Kalinga, we gave homes to several families in Sooc but did not stop there. We did not just build homes, we helped them build livelihood,” said Darwin Flores, Smart’s senior manager for Community Partnerships.

Escape the City - "Do Something Different!"

JOIN THE REVOLUTION:
www.escapethecity.org/register

Description
Escape the City was started by the two of us: Dom Jackman and Rob Symington. We both worked in 'The City' and bonded over a shared feeling of 'surely there is more to life than this?'

We started our careers as management consultants. Neither of us regrets this because we gained invaluable experience. However, once we began to reflect on where we wanted to be in five, ten, and fifteen years time, we both realised that we didn't want to pursue our careers in the corporate mainstream. We both wanted to do something a bit different, something that we genuinely cared about.

The truth is many graduates go into corporate jobs with no great plan other than learning a lot and gaining good experience. After a while many begin asking the same question that we did: 'what else could I be doing with my life other than living for the weekend?'

Escape the City was born the day that we were sitting in neighbouring cubicles at work and admitted to each other that we both thought there was more to life than what we were doing. We then realised that we were far from being alone in feeling frustrated and unfulfilled in 'The City' and that thousands of our fellow corporate professionals felt the same way. So we decided that we would build something to help all these people and, through doing so, to engineer our own escapes as well!

A Look at the Regulatory Innovation in the US: Crowdfunding is a game changer for startups and entrepreneurs

A Look at the Regulatory Innovation in the US: Crowdfunding is a game changer for startups and entrepreneurs | Yellow Boat Social Entrepreneurism | Scoop.it
In addition to the emerging growth company and crowd-funding provisions, the new law removes SEC regulations preventing small business from using advertisements to attract investors and raises the number of shareholders a company can have before it must register with the SEC from 500 to 2,000. This may be particularly relevant for our Networks users, who will be able advertise their Networks to reach a much broader audience.
In 2011, equity-based crowfunded projects like those currently on Grow VC raised $20.5 million, five times more than in 2010. We expect 2012, and especially 2013 to be massive improvements on these numbers. The SEC has 9 months to craft all of the nitty-gritty of the regulations, and Grow VC will be there every step of the way ensuring we are the first to be compliant with the new laws and generate maximum value for our users.

INVENTORY OF BOATS AT LAYAG LAYAG YELLOW BOAT COMMUNITY
By Anton Mari H. Lim in Zamboanga Funds for Little Kids ·
LISTED BELOW ARE COMPLETED YELLOW BOATS AT OUR LAYAG LAYAG YELLOW BOAT COMMUNITY AT CLUSTERS 1-6.

- UNLIKE IN OTHER YELLOW BOAT COMMUNITIES, The boat recipients will have to contribute SWEAT EQUITY in order to be qualify as recipient of our yellow boat. They are responsible in building of their own boats. Those who don't know how to build a boat (none so far) have to work with the CLUSTER LEADER. ZFLK provides them with all HIGH QUALITY RAW MATERIALS to ensure that they will last longer since the boats will not only bring their KIDS TO SCHOOL but also be used in ferrying their SEAWEEDS. They will be in use from SUN UP til SUN DOWN!

- The draw back in making the recipient build their own boats is that it will/may take more time to completely build one but it will definitely ensure SENSE OF OWNERSHIP and will guarantee that they will take good care of the labor of love. We should remember that ALL our recipients are planting/harvesting seaweeds and get to work on their boats during their FREE TIME.

Tezi Advisory | Trusted Business Advisors- thanks Gordon McDougall #ShiftVegas #VegasTech supporter! | Yellow Boat Social Entrepreneurism | Scoop.it

Gordon McDougall is a seasoned entrepreneur. He has been the driving force that founded or co-founded 15 companies in diverse industries. Many of the companies raised substantial funding and several became publicly traded. He is a professionally trained coach for both individuals and teams, was a stockbroker and has been a trusted advisor to many high-growth companies. As an entrepreneur he has weathered the stormy seas of commerce and has learned some powerful lessons from the successes and even more powerful lessons from the failures.
What inspired and drove him to create Tezi Advisory is to share his deep experience, knowledge and worldwide contacts with his fellow entrepreneurs and help as much as is humanly possible be a guide and a catalyst for their success.

“When we put the right skills and people in place, it is a given that the money will be there – the right people, the right capital, at the right time, that is “the Tezi Effect.”
— Gordon McDougall, Founding Partner

from Gordon to me: "Tezi Advisory is now misnamed as we do not do consulting. We invest and become part of the team or CEO and we work to create scalable businesses.

While I do not do consulting, I give a ton of time coaching and mentoring entrepreneurs and love it. I never charge for this. It is my way of giving back to a way of life that has been incredibly good to me.

Bitzio is an example of the kinds of companies that I get involved with. I started it about a year ago, and today we have 100+ employees and are a leader in the smartphone app business.

Another example that you might enjoy is www.organiclives.org ..."

Become an Entrepreneur--No Idea Required at new start-up foundry | Yellow Boat Social Entrepreneurism | Scoop.it
You get a salary, equity, mentors, and more. An inside look at how a San Francisco 'foundry' plans to build the next killer start-up.Want to start a company... but you're short on ideas?

What is a foundry?

Chicago-based Sandbox Industries recently opened a new start-up foundry in San Francisco. Managing Director Millie Tadewaldt says unlike a traditional incubator that brings in early-stage start-ups already working on idea, Sandbox simply looks for talented people–often with no entrepreneurial experience. It gives them mentorship and capital and tasks them with identifying promising new start-up ideas through testing, market research, focus groups–whatever it takes to figure out which ideas have legs.

Its closest proxies, she says, are Santa Monica-based Science or New York-based Betaworks, although what makes Sandbox different is its venture capital arm. Projects are initially funded internally by the foundry, then when mature, the teams seek funding from outside VCs and angels, as well as from Sandbox's venture funds.
