Tonlé Sap Biosphere Reserve

Tonlé Sap Biosphere Reserve

The Tonlé Sap Biosphere Reserve is a unique ecological phenomenon surrounding the Tonlé Sap or Great Lake of Cambodia. In 1997, it was successfully nominated as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. The lake is linked to the Mekong River by the Tonlé Sap River. From November until June the lake flows into the Mekong.

Together with partners India, Sri Lanka, Cambodia and Thailand, the Global Nature Fund is implementing the mangrove restoration project in Asia
The designated areas will be prepared prior to the mangrove restoration. The necessary mangroves will be grown in tree nurseries and so-called “household gardens”.
