99 Yarn Bombed Trees by KnittaPlease

KnittaPlease, also known as Magda Sayeg has made it her mission to create a ‘Knitted Wonderland’ in Austin, Texas. Magda is a textile artist and the founder of the knit graffiti group ‘KnittaPLease’. Knit graffiti is about covering public places with knitted textiles. “99 Yarn Bombed Trees” is a fun installation that covered the trunks of trees with colorful knitwear. The bright colors help to focus the viewer’s attention on the building in the background. The warm colors also offer contrast to the cool green grass; helping the installation stand out even more. Over 170 volunteers helped to assemble this installation. This installation was a response to an exhibit at The Blanton Museum of Art. The exhibit concentrated on the playfulness of textiles and craft.

A short article that also features the artist Magda Sayeg (also known as KnittahPlease). Sayeg is a well known fiber artist who help spawn the yarn bombing movement. The 99 trees featured in this photogrpah are in Paris and are part of the exhibition "Recovering Beauty". The goal of the exhibit was to focus on "the use of crafts and a return to ebauty, color, and playfulness". You can find additional images at her website Knitta.com.
