Using a Gradient for Light effects.

Using a Gradient for Light effects. | xposing world of Photography & Design | Scoop.it
Xposedbydesign's insight:

Courtesy of Planet Photoshop:

Gradients For Light Effects:

TO get a nice light effect, press D then X to set your Foreground color to white and your Background color to black.

GO to Layer>New Fill Layer>Gradient, set the Mode to Soft Light in the New Layer dialog, and click OK.

CLICK on the Gradient thumbnail in the Gradient Fill dialog, and choose Special Effects from the Gradient Editor's flyout menu.

I love the Soft Stripes preset to create a light effect. Don't forget to play around with the angle, opacity, color stops, color, etc.

Not all photographers have used artificial lighting before. In fact, some people only even rent lighting equipment when certain events or situations call for it, otherwise they just make do with natural light.

Artificial lighting can make or break a great photo.  Diffused lighting yields the best results by providing an even distribution of light to your subject.

Can't find your Cursor, this tip will find it fast.

Can't find your Cursor, this tip will find it fast. | xposing world of Photography & Design | Scoop.it
Xposedbydesign's insight:

Courtesy of Planet Photoshop:

PHOTOSHOP's cursors can be easy to lose onscreen, especially if you’re working on a big screen or with the crosshair cursor (meaning you have the Caps Lock key active).

WELL, the next time you’re working on an image, and you say to yourself, “Hey, where in the heck is my cursor?” (but you use a different word in place of “heck”), try this—just hold the Spacebar down for a moment.

THIS temporarily changes your cursor into the Hand tool, whose icon is larger, white, and easy to see. Once it appears, you’ll see right where your cursor is, and you can release the Spacebar.

I photographed this Russian model in a retail shopping district, Las Vegas,Nv.

Using Smart Objects makes more sense than comm+opt+shift+E

Using Smart Objects makes more sense than comm+opt+shift+E | xposing world of Photography & Design | Scoop.it
Xposedbydesign's insight:

Courtesy of Planet Photoshop:

If you never used Stamp Visible before (merges all layers into one) this probably won't make much sense to you.

Here is an example of why you would use "comm+opt+sht+E" which is the formula for STAMP VISIBLE.

Imagine you are woking on the above photo, after adding a curves layer, maybe you added a blank layer to remove blemishes, then you added a couple of adjustment layers, then you applied a vignette on a blank layer, then you added your copyright and before you know it, you have 7 layers.

The final touch is to sharpen it, how do you do it with all these layers?

You apply the stamp visible command so you have all your layers into one and this is the layer that you sharpen, however the sharpening is only applied to this new layer and not the ones underneath it.

Smart Object Instead Of Stamp Visible:
FOR years I've been telling people to press Command-Option-Shift-E (PC: Ctrl-Alt-Shift-E) to make a merged copy of all visible layers.

THE only problem with that method is it's a snapshot, so if you change the underlying layers, the merged version will not change.

INSTEAD, select all the layers and convert them to a smart object (Layer>Smart Objects>Convert to Smart Object).

NOW you can work on that layer, but still have live access to all the original layers just by double-clicking on the smart object.

I photographed this model at Lake Mead, Las Vegas a few years ago.

Give your Model glossy Lips in Photoshop.

Give your Model glossy Lips in Photoshop. | xposing world of Photography & Design | Scoop.it
Xposedbydesign's insight:

Courtesy of Planet Photoshop:

IF you see a shiny highlight on your subject’s lips, and you want to make it look glossier, duplicate the Background layer then change your layer blend mode to Screen to brighten the entire image.

OPTION-click (PC: Alt-click) the Add Layer Mask icon to hide this brighter layer behind a black mask.

PRESS D to set your Foreground color to white; choose a small, soft-edged Brush (B); and paint over those white highlight areas on the lips and they’ll get even glossier.

I photographed this model in a friends backyard using a 2 light setup. He built a little pool using 2 x 4's and a plastic tarp, filled it with about 3" of water and poured in a beautiful model.

Darkening the Eyebrows

Darkening the Eyebrows | xposing world of Photography & Design | Scoop.it
Xposedbydesign's insight:

Courtesy of Planet Photoshop:

Darkening The Eyebrows

TO make your subject's eyebrows darker, add a Levels adjustment layer (Layer>New Adjustment Layer>Levels) and drag the center slider to the right to darken the overall midtones.

PRESS Command-I (PC: Ctrl-I) to hide that darkening behind a black layer mask.

PRESS D to set your Foreground color to white; choose a small, soft-edged Brush (B); and paint over the eyebrows.

IF the eyebrows are too intense, change the layer blend mode of this Levels adjustment layer to Luminosity for a more natural look.

I photographed this model in a shopping mall in Las Vegas.

Is this unethical, maybe illegal? Whats your opinion.

Is this unethical, maybe illegal? Whats your opinion. | xposing world of Photography & Design | Scoop.it
Xposedbydesign's insight:

Whats your take on this?

I'm always fiddling around with new things in Photoshop and never have exactly the right photos for the technique so occasionally I'll buy a stock photo or try to find one in the Public domain that will work.

I bought the dancer photo from Depost Photos if I remember right and the background image was in the Public Domain.

The dancer was shot in a studio and I cut her out from the background.

The background was a regular color image which I applied a Painterly effect to it, cleaned up some things, added the dancer and her shadow to it.

My question concerns my name that I go by (XposedbyDesign) that I added.

Is this legal or even ethical. I look forward to your input.

Ps. I'm pretty sure I have the extended license for the dancer, please base

you opinion on this license version.

Xposedbydesign's insight:

Create A Most-Used Brush Set

IF you're tired of having to dig through all the "funky" brushes in the Brush Preset Picker to get to the ones that you want, then try this:

FIRST, open the Preset Manager (under the Edit menu), and organize and remove any unwanted or unused preset brushes.

THEN, click the Save Set button to create your own set of presets that only contain the brushes that you use over and over again.

IN the Brush Preset Picker's flyout menu, select Replace Brushes and choose your set of saved brushes.
