Germany invaded poland on September 1st, 1939 which started WW11. Brittian and france then declared war on Germany 2 days later. a month after that, poland was defeat by Soviets and Germans. France signed an armistice with Germany on June 22, 1940. Exactly one year later the Germans and their allies invaded soviet union.

I learned from this document that president d. roosevelt directed that Fort Ontario, New York, become a free port for refugees. only a few thousand refugees were allowed there and they were from liberated areas, not from Nazi-occupied areas

Over 60 million death were caused in from 1939-45'. WW11 was the largest conflict ever known, even bigger than WW1 with about 38 milion deaths. During WW11 Battle of Monte Cassino was one of the hardest, Where the went up south to try and break through Germans’ Gustav Line, which was made up of 4 smaller battles in January, February, March and May.
