Forget The Selfie. Let's Make 2013 The Year Of The Unselfie

Forget The Selfie. Let's Make 2013 The Year Of The Unselfie | wup thoughts | Scoop.it

"SELFIE" is word of the year, according to the Oxford English Dictionary. Posting a picture of yourself, taken on your mobile device, along with the hashtag #selfie, has become one of the defining features of the new social media world created by the spread of Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and so on.

A selfie is something anyone can do. It is especially popular with celebrities, who are posting selfies like there is no tomorrow. As you can see, for example, Kim Kardashian, a reality TV star known as the Queen of the Selfie, posted one when she wanted the world to know that her body was back in shape after giving birth. You get the picture. If this trend strikes you as rather, well, selfie-centred, why not fight back and promote the opposite, by posting an "unselfie"?...

How Social Media is Changing Business — And Your Job Search

How Social Media is Changing Business — And Your Job Search | wup thoughts | Scoop.it

A decade ago, businesses didn’t have company Facebook profiles, Twitter accounts or Instagram feeds.

In fact, Facebook didn’t exist.

When you start thinking about how much social media has changed the way that businesses operate in the past few years, you can’t help but wonder how much more — and how — it will change in the coming decade.

According to Sandy Carter, General Manager of IBM Ecosystems and Social Business Evangelist at IBM, there are a lot of exciting changes to come. As an author, speaker and expert in social business, Carter not only makes sure her company stays on top of the latest technology trends and how they can be incorporated into the workforce, but makes sure other companies recognize that potential, as well.

Pinterest Is Gaining Ground on Facebook and Twitter for News | wup thoughts | Scoop.it

hen it comes to sharing news online, Facebook and Twitter get most of the attention.Pinterest, a platform more traditionally known for retail, food and travel-related postings, is gaining ground in the news category as well.

A new study from Gigya, a social login provider for many media companies, including ABC, NBC, and FOX, found that 20% of all "media/publishing"-related content shared to social networks in Q3 was shared on Pinterest. Facebook (40%) and Twitter (30%) maintained leads in the category, but Pinterest gained some ground after accounting for 18% of media and publishing shares in Q2.
