The Remarkable Power Of Visual Metaphors To Make Us More Creative

Figurative images, such as an illuminated or a blown bulb, can improve our insights--but they can also dim them.

Kenneth Mikkelsen's curator insight, April 14, 1:40 PM

New research, published this month in the Journal of Consumer Psychology, suggests that visual metaphors don't have to be so intrusive to be effective. In one experiment, test participants completed a creativity measure online. During the task, some saw a page banner depicting a brain hovering above a box, while others saw a neutral image (a fish) or none at all. The first group of participants indeed showed better insights than the others; they thought, as it were, outside the box.

Using content to enhance search engine optimization (SEO) is about creating “stuff” — on your website, blog, and on social media platforms — in such a way that the content (and thus your website or Facebook Page) appear higher in search rankings. Statistics from analytics company Searchmetrics show that seven of the 10 most important factors in SEO ranking currently come from social media:

Googlenutella+, Facebook Shares, Facebook Total, Facebook Comments, Facebook Likes, Pinterest and Tweets. According to this same report, Facebook shares are as influential as the number of backlinks.

Here are 8 tips for creating social-media friendly content that ranks:

Nuttige tips!

Bill Gassett's curator insight, February 18, 8:47 AM

While the advice in this article is sound the one thing that jumps out at me is the continued notion that social sharing DIRECTLY effects SEO rankings! Folks it does not! The people that continuously put out these reports are the same people that make info-graphics they want you to write articles about and imbed their info-graphics on your site.

How many times does Google itself have to tell us that Facebook shares, likes and tweets do not increase SEO?

Without links the social signals don't mean squat!
