Annoying auto-play videos and mobile/pop-up ads suck the air out of your mobile device, which is probably one of the biggest reasons mobile can really suck

You can do a lot on mobile. You can check your emails, post in your networks, access your cloud storage, and video conference. If your device has at least one USB port, you might even be able to add a mouse or access files on your portable hard drive.

Because these devices all operate on apps, what these they cannot do is operate your software. For some of us, we need that software to create, edit, and maintain our work. I am lost without my Microsoft Office Pro and Adobe products.

Want to know why things go viral? Why some products get more word of mouth? Let me tell you a secret. It’s not luck.

Viral has become marketing’s Holy Grail. From the Harlem Shake to the Rutgers basketball coach abusing his players, hardly a week goes by without some video or news story going viral. And word of mouth and virality have a huge impact on businesses, large and small. Blender company Blendtec’s sales shot up more than 700% a few years ago after videos of the CEO blending things like iPhones spread like wildfire. But what makes something go viral?

If you ask most social media “gurus,” they’ll tell you it’s all about getting lucky. Viral isn’t a strategy, it’s like buying a lottery ticket. Or they’ll talk about cats. Lots of people share videos of funny kitties, so cats must be the reason things go viral.

 There are no guarantees in marketing. But if you tap into the heirarchy of social needs, someone is bound to see it. Some campaigns backfire into mocking memes due to message disconnect. But then again, that is still viral.

Actually, Forbes is creating shareable content. I've personally liked and shared at least one of their stories that shows up in my curated links every week. Quality, shareability, and good business sense = readership.

One of the most interesting things about content marketing is that you can never really be sure of the kind of feedback you're going to receive.

Never say never. The ones who spread good stuff that make others smile, laugh, or feel good -- or relate to -- often get the most reshares.

 

My Facebook philosophy has been to post stuff that keeps bringing people back to my profile. While they are there, they will see some meatier posts, but those posts might not bring them in the same way Grumpy Cat would. Once they're in, and if I entertain them enough, they'll keep coming back. The more they come back, the more likelihood they'll notice what you do, and the more likelihood you will get referrals and leads. That's how Facebook became my #1 source of business leads -- but from my personal profile, not my pages. Gotta work on that. ;)

Unlike the many talented storytellers here this evening, I can’t tell a tale unless it’s written down. Actually, until very recently I would not have called myself much of a storyteller at all – out of respect for the term.
