My BIG List of iPad Coding Apps for Kids! - Jonathan Wylie | ipad | Scoop.it

"December 9-15, 2013 is Computer Science Education Week, and this year their big push is to get coding incorporated into school curriculums everywhere. There are lots of reasons why kids should be coding, but none more than the fact that there are more resources than ever to help students and teachers get started, regardless of their previous experiences with computer programming. So, in honor of the #HourOfCode project, here is my BIG list of iPad coding apps for kids. There is something here for students of all ages."

Some excellent coding apps here. I have been looking into coding apps for the Tech X Perts as I believe it is a critical skill for young people - it involves both logic and creativity and can really take them places.

Mohini Lata's curator insight, May 25, 2013 8:15 AM

The Pedagogy Wheel is the mobile learning of the ongoing importance of Bloom’s Taxonomy which is fundamental to good teaching and learning. Digital technology learning identifies which tool to be used at different levels of thinking. The pedagogy wheel serves a creative pedagogical use for learning goals which are higher order thinking skills. The action verbs of higher order thinking relates directly to the Draft Australian Curriculum Technologies sub-strand of digital Technologies processes and production skills which states that when using digital technologies students will use a range of digital systems and their components and peripherals. These apps are to serve a creative pedagogical use in mathematical higher order thinking classroom.

Kim Flintoff's curator insight, October 4, 2013 9:15 PM

What a furphy - there is no need to lock down student devices - the problem only exists in the eyes of the administrators.  OPen access provides rich authentic learning opportunities - if the students are provided with meaningful, relevantr and engaging learnign experiences the issues of inapporpriate use become a tangential concern relating to a handful of students who can then be offered a chance to learn about why their actions did not serve them well.  Education is alwaysa bout learnign and should never be about policing and punishing.

The simple use of the verb "to force" highlights that this is about brutal application of power relations not education.

Competition is always good if you are a consumer so it's great to see another option for sharing in addition to Dropbox. The additional free storage in Copy in comparison to Dropbox could be a winner though perhaps the more important consideration is that Copy offers another space in which to backup important files.
