A-mazing: Google's 200 Ranking Factors - Search Engine Journal | World's Best Infographics | Scoop.it

SEO itself has always been somewhat of a barrier to entry for online success. In other words, for a new person it’s so complex that it takes a long time to understand all the little things that search engines, Google specifically, are asking for. Time, capital, and energy are necessary to rank pages on the world’s most popular search engine.

Having said that, I found it necessary to compile a list of 200 ranking factors. As you’re reading it, make a list of the things you need to implement into your marketing strategy. Remember, this is all white hat and I would never recommend you participate in spammy or black hat techniques. I can tell you business owner after owner who struggled in the major updates in the past year and a half. They were toying with the dark side and Google caught onto them....

The Science of Storytelling | SocialTimes | World's Best Infographics | Scoop.it

The chemical and psychological makeup of our minds affects how we consume content: Our brains are wired to connect with compelling stories.

Brand storytelling tactics focus on different functions of the brain related to understanding and perception. The brain processes images 60 times faster than text, and 92 percent of consumers want brands to create stories around ads. Because of this, marketers should be delivering linear content with clear narratives and using images to tell their stories.

OneSpot has put together the following infographic to demonstrate how storytelling affects the brain and how brands can cut through the noise to offer stories that resonate with readers....

Never underestimate of the power of a woman, especially when combined with social media. From the number of active users on a social network to the frequency of their interaction with other users and brands, women are a powerful force in the social media realm. Curious how much power women hold on social media?

Take a look at the infographic below from Finances Online for some possibly surprising statistics. While it is well-known that women dominate Pinterest, they also outnumber men on four of the other top six social networks: Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Tumblr. However, men continue to account for the majority of LinkedIn’s users. In addition, 30% of women use social media multiple times a day, while only 26% men report using social media sites several times a day...

And we’re just getting started. Over that same 60 second period, 347,222 photos are sent on WhatsApp, 416,667 swipes are made on Tinder and 3,472 images are pinned on Pinterest.

And if you think that’s impressive, Google receives 4 millions search queries, Facebook users share 2.46 million pieces of content and 204 million email messages are sent each and every minute of the day.

Ghostwriters, Spies, and Content Marketing’s Thought Leadership Problem | The Freelancer, by Contently | World's Best Infographics | Scoop.it

...Now that content marketing has been around long enough for trends to cement, we’re getting close to a thought leadership bubble. Too much of it has become farce. The widespread publishing of ghostwritten posts from marketing leaders will continue to cheapen the impact that comes from the leaders who regularly put in the time and effort to pen their own insightful work. To me, that point seems inarguable.

“Marketers are beginning to get less value out of these posts,” Westervelt added. “Not just because of whatever Google decides to do with guest blogging, but because being one of only a handful of CEOs to contribute a story to Forbes once in a while is a whole lot more valuable than being just one among hundreds and having your post buried within minutes of being published.”

Google, in the spirit of keeping the Internet free of clutter, has echoed this idea by penalizing some guest blogging network in search rankings to prevent readers from accessing spammy content that all sounds the same....

Infographic Trends | Social Media Today

Infographic Trends | Social Media Today | World's Best Infographics | Scoop.it

What are the current trends with infographics in 2014?

Infographics have always been around, but the emergence of “Big Data” has caused the display of trends and statistical correlations using “little men” and 3-D pie charts to become more popular than ever. Why? As a society we’ve become inundated with piles of alphanumeric data each day.

Infographics takes this content and boils it down to essential, understandable visual elements. Additionally, as a content building/content marketing tactic, infographics can provide a break from “dry text,” causing users to  spend more time on the page. But as the novelty of infographics has faded, more and more bad infographics saturate the web landscape.

In order for infographics to be effective, they need to use multiple data points to tell a cohesive story or prove a theory. After some research, I found some interesting trends affecting the infographics space....
