How to Create Awesome Infographics Without Being a Designer

How to Create Awesome Infographics Without Being a Designer | World's Best Infographics | Scoop.it

If you’re anything like me, you learned how to use programs like Photoshop and Gimp out of necessity to do minor changes to photos. You might have even dabbled in some easier graphic design projects for your own website, but it takes you hours to get the image or the design looking just right and you’re left exhausted. You might even spend time looking up tutorials on how to achieve a certain effect and still have trouble re-creating it.

In short, while you do know your way around the programs like Photoshop to a certain extent, it takes you forever and there’s absolutely no way you’d call yourself a graphic designer. But then, you’re surfing around the web and you noticed some really cool infographics on things like fashion, music and food and you can’t help but wish that you could create something like that; even if it’d take you a week....

5 Great Online Tools for Creating Infographics | Cool Infographics

5 Great Online Tools for Creating Infographics | Cool Infographics | World's Best Infographics | Scoop.it
Creating infographics using online tools has never been easier. In the last few years a number of online tools have emerged that allow anyone to create great visual content.  Whether you are working on a project for work, personal use, or social media, each new project starts with a template. With the dimensions laid out for you, you can focus your attention on quickly creating effective designs. Search, drag, and publish - it can be that simple.

These new tools are vector graphics applications that run in your browser as a replacement for using an expensive professional desktop application like Adobe Illustrator to put your infographic design together.  Each one offers different tools, image libraries, charts, fonts and templates as a starting point.  None of these have the full capabilities of a professional desktop application, but you probably don’t need that much power to create a simple infographic.

In this article, we take a quick look at 5 of the best online tools for creating infographics: Visme, Canva, Easel.ly, Piktochart, and Infogr.am. All of these tools are evolving quickly, and this is just a snapshot of their current capabilities.

How People Buy: The Evolution of Consumer Purchasing | HubSpot | World's Best Infographics | Scoop.it

It's the great American pastime.

No, I'm not talking about baseball. Or stuffing your face with apple pie. Or arguing about politics with your family over Thanksgiving dinner. No, I'm talking about the great American pastime of buying stuff.

Unlike those other pastimes, however, which have remained relatively unchanged over the years, the way we buy has evolved considerably. For example ...

In 1914, you might've been tempted to buy a (non-branded) pastry after noticing a delicious smell emanating from the local bakery.

In 2014, you might be tempted to buy a Pop-Tart after seeing a commercial for Pop-Tarts on TV, or after reading an article about Pop-Tarts on The Wall Street Journal website, or after hearing about (or attending) a Pop-Tarts-brandedsummer concert series....

Jeff Guzzo's curator insight, October 6, 1:34 AM

The article Americans Would Forfeit Cars, TV, and Sex for Their Tablets is an article that shows the importance of mobile marketing. The article states numerous statistics based on the survey about how significant tablets are to the consumers who own them. The survey stated that 91% of consumers who own tablets use them before bed while they are winding down. This measurement shows how beneficial it is to implement mobile marketing through social media, email and apps, considering the percentage of people who use tablets before bed. Companies could send out emails around 9 or 10PM so that the consumers see the emails before they go to bed. The highest percentage of people who own tablets are in the over $100k income per year demographic, but people of all incomes own the devices. This data suggests that marketers could target the higher income households for the greatest success rates generated through their advertisements. With the increasing popularity of tablets, it should be a must for marketers to target consumers using these mobile devices.

The Effects of Social Media on Our Body and Brain

The Effects of Social Media on Our Body and Brain | World's Best Infographics | Scoop.it

We always talk about how social media can affect your brand, your reputation your social life. What we don’t discuss is the effect it has on our body and brain. What sorts ofchemical reactions happen each time we check our Twitter? How does our brain work now that internet is everywhere?

We all have seen the symptoms in ourselves. In fact, we can’t spend more than 10 minutes without checking our email or messages. But, apparently, there is a study which confirms that there are huge  psychopathological impacts that social media have brought to our lives. The results are impressive and you can find them below, in the infographic conceived and created by the team at TollFreeForwarding...

This is your brain on social media!

rodrick rajive lal's curator insight, September 22, 2:56 AM

This is absolutely terrifying, an attention span of 8 minutes? Goldfish can do better - 9 minutes! It is certainly amzing how social media has begun to affect us mentally as well as physically! Do you get irritated whien your partner  talks to you for a longe period of time? Does it feel as if you are forgetting something? Do you feel breathlesss, restless and somehow rushing things up so that you can check out your FB or Twitter updates? Do you take out your mobile during board meetings to check on updates on social sites? If you are doing all this, then you are certainly addicted to the internet and you need to go for counselling and de-addiction! But then this is not just about how we are affected mentally, it is also about that pain you have in your back, and that occasional stiff neck. What about that nagging ache you have been experiencing lately? Do I need to go on? Haven't we all felt the side effects of excess surfing on the net? Don't we know all this? But then we really like being addicted to something that makes us feel good, so what if we have become somewhat narcicist, so what, don't we deserve to pamper ourselves?

Caitlin Mazurkevich's curator insight, September 22, 5:43 PM

Social Media is more than just a way to stay connected to others or to pass time. These days it is more than anything like a drug to its users. Through constant notifications and updates, these social media sites are conditioning its users to rely on them for pleasure and validation. When people are saying it is harder to quit social media than it is smoking, you know there is a real issue here.

We are devoting more and more of our time per day to these sites, which is having a negative effect on our brain. It impairs one's ability to properly read and write, worsens recall memory and even fuels narcissism in its users. Consistent social media users get accustomed to auto-correct that they lose their ability to know how to spell words or use proper grammar. The narcissism comes from its users posting and sharing mostly about themselves and what they are thinking, doing, etc.

I believe social media is a great tool, especially for businesses to promote themselves. However, with all the personal noise from its users, it could be a tough road to navigate without having a game plan.

Florence Boy's curator insight, September 23, 4:16 AM
