Camryn Scott's insight:

This could be a powerful weapon. I have said this a million times, but technology has come so far. War has become far more complicated and deadly with new gadgets and scientific discoveries. There is no telling what war will be like in 500 years or more. At that point in time it would great if there just wasn't war, but overcoming national differences isn't easy.

Hong Kong to destroy seized ivory

Hong Kong to destroy seized ivory | News | Scoop.it
Hong Kong will destroy 28 tonnes of ivory confiscated from smugglers to discourage the illegal ivory trade, officials say.
Camryn Scott's insight:

I think this is a difficult situation. I get that they are burning the ivory as a punishment and I agree that poaching is wrong, but that is a waste of the lives that were lost. If they didn't burn the ivory poachers might think, hey this is easy lets do it again. If they do burn the ivory it is kind of a waste because you could do something with it I don't what, but it could be used in some way to help stop the destruction of elephants.

Camryn Scott's insight:

I think it was nice of the lady to help out the coyote. I think it is very interesting to discuss the involvement of peopel in nature. I think people should leave animals a lone in the wild generally it doesn't hurt if you see an animal in pain to call a vet or someone to help, but it is better to stay out. Unfortunately people are already so involved in wild animal's lives because we are cutting down their homes are polluting their drinking sources.

Extreme weather 'keeps people poor'

Extreme weather 'keeps people poor' | News | Scoop.it

New research suggests that extreme weather events will keep people poor in many parts of the world.

The authors argue that where disasters like drought are prevalent, they can be the most important cause of poverty.

They say that up to 325 million people will be living in countries highly exposed to natural hazards by 2030.

If aid is not used to reduce these risks, the progress made in fighting poverty could disappear.

The report has been compiled by the Overseas Development Institute.

Via SustainOurEarth
Camryn Scott's insight:

I asumed that weather did effect poverty and now I know for sure. i can understand how weather can cause poverty. If there is a lot of earthquakes and huricanes millions of houses could be destroyed. Because the houses and buildings are destroyed the have to be rebuilt constantly and that takes time, money and resources.
