Mia 'Rocky' Needham's curator insight, March 25, 2015 10:44 PM

I decided to scoop this article, as I would like to work for a large company in the future.  Communication is key when working with various groups of people and this article has several simply ways to keep everyone updated on what is happening.  This in turn would help keep the workplace compliant with health and safety regulations and team members would be able to address any issues that arise in a timely manner.

Callum Dunlop's curator insight, March 28, 2015 9:17 PM

This article is something that I feel isn’t practiced in workplaces enough – especially mine. OHS can sometimes not be the most exciting subject but we need to remember that communication is key! In this digital age of smart phone and email we can easily communicate problems or incidents to each other quickly and with minimal effort.  In my workplace people leave for long periods of time all the time and I know we don’t always keep them up to date with notable incidents. Yes we have programs like Sentinel and log books we keep – but we don’t always check them ourselves. Also, I would rather get a quick brief from a safety officer to say “Hey X, Y and Z happened why you were away” Communication is such a key part of companies and how they do business and we need to employee this strategy with regards to OHS.

Carrying out repetitive work can be a monotonous exercise for a machine operator. This is even worse if working conditions are unsafe and unhealthy. Such situations can result in employee stress. Often times all the focus is put on the managers or supervisors to make favourable changes but it is also important to realise that employees have a part to play in managing workplace stress. As a machine operator it is important to equip oneself with knowledge of stress management so that measures can be put in place to avoid stress than to wait and react to it. This scoop gives an outline of relevant strategies that can be adopted by both organisations and individuals in dealing with stress.
