Sage advice from the master, I've had the same expereince with dump truck directing from the 1st time directors that I've worked with on small budget indie films

 

"In order to shoot, you have to know how to cut. Otherwise, you’re shooting lots of stuff, and its a lesson for directors I wish more of them would learn. You don’t need a cut of the door knob, and a cut of a window, and a cut of medium-shot, long-shot, close-up — that’s “dump-truck” directing"
