How Technology Is Changing The Way Organizations Learn

How Technology Is Changing The Way Organizations Learn | Working With Social Media Tools & Mobile | Scoop.it

By the late 20th century, a knowledge economy began to take hold.  Workers became valued not for their labor, but for specialized knowledge, much of which was inscrutable to their superiors. Successful enterprises became learning organizations.

Now, we are entering a new industrial revolution and machines are starting to take over cognitive tasks as well.  Therefore, much like in the first industrial revolution, the role of humans is again being rapidly redefined.  Organizations will have to change the way that they learn and managers’ primary task will be to design the curricula.

5 Ways Technology Has Changed Recruiting Forever | Working With Social Media Tools & Mobile | Scoop.it

A recent CareerBuilder report finds that 77 percent of full-time workers are either looking for a new job or are open to a change this year.

Candidates who haven’t applied in a couple years will quickly find that the rules are different. Anyone who still thinks dropping off a resume at the front desk is enough will have better luck uploading it to their MySpace page and rushing to the nearest pay phone to place a follow-up call.

Why People Are Sharing in the Collaborative Economy (Study)

Why People Are Sharing in the Collaborative Economy (Study) | Working With Social Media Tools & Mobile | Scoop.it

When people first think of the sharing economy, a subset of the greater Collaborative Economy, they think of technology-laden hipsters in communes. What we found was quite the opposite – that this sharing behavior is common place behavior across many scenarios. We discovered that people often share for reasons that made pragmatic sense for themselves – not community altruism

6 ways to rethink corporate knowledge sharing

The quest to effectively share knowledge within a company is one that still appears elusive. How do you keep on top of your competitors’ developments? How do you monitor articles that mention your brand? How do you make sure your teams get the information they need to make decisions and to learn?

While we never had more ways to disseminate intelligence and knowledge within companies, it's easy to feel overwhelmed so that we're still often perceiving a lack of communication in the corporate world.

Innovation Excellence | New Problems, New Approaches: The Rise of the Generalist | Working With Social Media Tools & Mobile | Scoop.it

We’ve been trained to perceive Generalists as ‘jacks of all trades – masters of none’, in other words, driving little to no value in the business.  The new breed of  ‘Generalist’ that our organizations desperately need defies and deeply challenges these perceptions.

The new Generalist is in fact a master of their trade. They bring expertise and experience in several areas, fueled by insatiable curiosity and the ability to “hyper-learn” new concepts and ideas.

How to Spend Only 10 Minutes Per Day on Twitter

How to Spend Only 10 Minutes Per Day on Twitter | Working With Social Media Tools & Mobile | Scoop.it

The No. 1 complaint from businesses new to social media is: “I just don’t have time.” What these people don’t realize is that social media doesn’t always require a huge commitment, especially Twitter.

As Facebook constantly changes its algorithm and increases preference for promoted posts and ads, turn to Twitter for free and effective small business social networking. Your plan of attack involves two main tools: Hootsuite andTwitter Lists.

Peter Calamia's curator insight, February 23, 4:33 PM

Finally! Businesses can navigate through Twitter in only 10 minutes, but effective minutes. How? By using "Hootsuite". My only question is, would a company find this helpful? I get social media is big, and growing each and every day. But are the big companies finding such things as "Hoosuite" beneficial? I am getting confused by the amount of social media use and shortcuts, connections, and "#hashtags" that people and websites are coming up with. It seems as if these platforms are getting over used, and companies are going to start to hire 9 year old children so they can effectively compete and use "#hashtags". That's right, 9 year olds! How will President Obama possibly fit people as young as nine years old into minimum wage and unemployment debates and policies?

Why do you follow brands on Twitter?

If you’re anything like 52 percent of consumers it’s to be notified of special offers and promotions, while 33 percent click “follow” on the hope that they’ll be getting some freebies.

30 percent expect access to exclusive content, while just two in five (38 percent) are current customers. This visual fromTwitter looks at 10 reasons why people follow brands on the social network.

Abbey 's curator insight, April 7, 4:45 PM

These are quite interesting statistics! I am one of those 52% wanting special offers/promotions and also the 33% that are hoping for freebies! I tend to only like a brand on Facebook or Twitter if I initially see advertising for a competition /discount. Lots of brands make statuses saying something along the lines of "like this status for the opportunity to win......" So if I see something like that I will automatically like it and then generally forget about the brand until something promoting the brand pops up on my news feed, where I will more often than not unlike the page! The fact that only 33% of a branders "Likers" are current customers is really interesting, to me that shows that the facebook page is creating brand awareness for the other 62% that are not initial customers. So all though majority of that 62% just wants something free our a special offer, they are still learning and become more aware of the brand which is a huge positive.

Easy to implement solutions that make sense! For example, brainstorming - engaging thinkers with different skill sets across your organization - is a proven strategy that keeps the team involved,  motivated  and excited to find solutions and remain at the top of their game.

PivotPointBrands's curator insight, March 24, 11:39 AM

Too many companies offer lip service to the idea of fostering innovation and this article points out some examples of organizations who build it into their culture and truly foster innovation.

Agency.com used to have all glass walls for hallways, meeting rooms, and offices and everyone carried erasable markers. It looked somewhat chaotic, but also very exciting to walk among all of the scribbles and doodles.

It seems as though any time you hear about Web design these days, you can’t help but come across the term “flat design.” While the flat Web design trend has been emerging in recent years, it seemed to have exploded in popularity thanks to large companies and organizations changing their design aesthetic to that of flat design.

But where did flat design come from? And why are we seeing it on the Web? As with anything in design, knowing where a style or technique came from and the history behind it can help you make more educated decisions when it comes to the use of the design aesthetic.
