Content Marketing has been all the rage these past few years. We’ve heard from many speakers and influencers that content marketing is the new advertising and that “brands must become media to earn relevance”. But how do we measure its ROI and know our content isn’t just fueling some vanity metric but is actually helping our business?

Content marketing is important to build relationships with your current and potential customers and to engage your audience through shared interests, but ultimately, its goal is to make money and meet other business goals.

It can be difficult to measure the return on investment (ROI) of content marketing at times, but @Guillaume Decugis has put together this awesome list of tips on a few things to look at that can help determine if your content is helping you reach your business goals and affirm that all that time you're spending creating and curating is paying off (literally).

The value and service of client base is paramount to business success yet too often considered as a cost centre rather than the profit centre it can be. Social media increases the reach of both good and bad customer services and experience - in the long run, it pays to take care of current clients.

Rand Fishkin of Moz makes a great point: who cares whether Google denies or admits taking social signals into account in search results?

At the end of the day, the correlation between shares and ranking is so high that smart content strategists should act as if they were taken into account.

Because whether it's true or not, it will lead you to publish content that is both appealing to humans and Google.

And that's the real win.

Bitcoin: speculative bubble or currency of the future? | FXStreet.com

Bitcoin: speculative bubble or currency of the future? | FXStreet.com | Tech | Scoop.it

The last few weeks have been complicated for the bitcoin, the virtual currency created in 2009 by an anonymous programmer under the pseudonym of Satoshi Nakamoto. The key feature of this currency is its peer-to-peer payment system (user to user, without intermediaries) based on open source software administered by a community of volunteers. There is no central authority or central bank managing the system and no-one owns it. Its acceptance as a means of payment ultimately depends on the confidence generated by the currency. However, doubts have emerged regarding its security with the disappearance of MtGox, to date the main platform for trading and handling bitcoins, victim of a massive theft by hackers.

Operating with bitcoins requires both parties in a transaction to have accounts called «bitcoin wallets». To transfer the currency, sellers must give buyers their password and buyers send bitcoins to sellers using a software application. The bitcoin user network provides the computing power of its members' devices for the system to verify that the vendor is the legitimate owner of the transferred bitcoins and to register the transaction. This process, whose aim is to guarantee the system's security, involves the solution of a complex mathematical problem and can take from one minute to one hour for very large transactions. Users helping to solve this problem are rewarded with new bitcoins (called «digital mining»).

Bitcoins can also be acquired through other exchange platforms operating in real time. After the sudden closure of MtGox, Bitstamp has emerged as the most popular platform to handle and trade in bitcoins against other currencies.

Companies are Investing More Money, Resources in Customer Experience | Tech | Scoop.it

Companies are committed to customer experience (CX). It's a priority in most, more important this year than last — and many companies are hiring more people to focus on it. Those are among the key takeaways in the latest  of a series of reports from Temkin Group, a customer experience (CX) research and consulting firm. Topic: Customer Experience.

Positive Attitudes about CX

The report, Customer Experience Expectations and Plans for 2014, (fee charged) is the fourth in a series from Temkin Group. This one surveyed 152 companies with $500 million or more in annual revenues about their customer experience results in the past year and asked them about their plans for 2014 and beyond.

Managing Partner Bruce Temkin, who is also co-founder and chair of theCustomer Experience Professionals Association, told CMSWire the current report is characterized by companies’ “positive attitudes about CX.” He outlined three main findings:

EFF Fights Destruction of Spying Evidence in Court Wednesday | EFF.org

EFF Fights Destruction of Spying Evidence in Court Wednesday | EFF.org | Tech | Scoop.it

The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) will fight disturbing new government claims in an emergency court hearing Wednesday – claims that may imply records documenting ongoing government surveillance have been destroyed despite a judge's order.

Over the last several weeks, EFF has been battling to ensure that evidence of the NSA surveillance program will be preserved as part of its two cases challenging the illegal government spying: Jewel v. NSA and First Unitarian Church of Los Angeles v. NSA. But in a court filing late Monday, the government made shocking new assertions, arguing that its obligation to preserve evidence was limited to aspects of the original Bush-era spying program, which the government contends ended eight years ago with a transition to FISA court orders.

"This argument simply does not make sense. EFF has been demanding an injunction to stop this illegal spying program, regardless of the government's shifting justifications," said EFF Legal Director Cindy Cohn, who will argue in front of U.S. District Court Judge Jeffrey S. White at the hearing Wednesday. "But these government claims aren't just nonsensical – they are extremely worrisome and dangerous. The government is suggesting it may have destroyed years' worth of evidence about its illegal spying, justified by its own secret interpretation of our case. This is about more than just phone records; it's about evidence concerning all of the government's spying. EFF is asking the court for a full accounting of just what is going on here, and it's time for the government to come clean."

Eye Tracking 101: How Your Eyes Move on a Website

Eye Tracking 101: How Your Eyes Move on a Website | Tech | Scoop.it

Engage website visitors better by designing your site to match how people's eyes move on the page. Here are some surprising eye tracking stats to help.

Putting together a great looking website is a great start, but it is just a start.

True web design requires you to venture beyond the aesthetic and into the worlds of User Experience and Conversion Rate Optimization.

Knowing how the viewers of your site really see it can help to shine light on new and/or missed opportunities within your current design. It may also bring out the need for new elements or changes.

While there are plenty of options for improving CRO, eye tracking analysis provides some of the most useful information for optimizing your biggest digital marketing asset, your website.

A good design will catch people’s eye, but a great design will keep people on your site and get them engaged with your content. And while you shouldn’tunderestimate the power of good copy, your design is what people notice first.

We teamed up with our friends over at Single Grain to put together the infographic below in hopes that it will help everyone get a better, basic understanding of what eye tracking is and what it can do.
