Anne Rubin's curator insight, November 24, 2014 1:51 PM

The article “Stop Wasting Time & Money On Your Content Marketing” discusses the following mistakes that brands make when creating content: Pitching executives on content marketing & social media; creating a full-blown content strategy; believing in content shock; having to be awesome at storytelling; creating content that is perfect and long; measuring ROI of content marketing is too hard; salespeople get in the way of content creation; and measuring conversions is all that matters. The mistakes that interested me most were making the content perfect and long as well as salespeople getting in the way of content creation. Although I am not too familiar with content marketing, a part of me has always thought that most content has to be long and filled with substance to be considered good. However, as I was writing the blog for my group during our last project, I realized that I could post a quick video and that could have the same meaningful impact as a long post (sometimes even a more meaningful impact). Furthermore, I have never thought of salespeople as content creators, but since they do have to know the customer really well to be effective, it makes a lot of sense to me now.

“ Writing great content. Choosing the right headline. Getting people to read it. What’s next? Sometimes we tend to neglect the last and most vital part of content marketing – converting blog readers to users. Think of it this way: increasing the conversion from your blog by even 10% gives the same result as raising the traffic by 10% or writing 10% more posts. ”With small tweaks, it’s possible to double or triple the conversion rate, which is the end target. Most of the time, increasing the conversion rate can be done easily by adding a certain button or the right link.
