Geography Movies List

Geography Movies List | Professional Learning | Scoop.it

If you are looking for suggestions for movies that have some geographic content, this is one teachers list (offered as an extra credit option) that is grouped by regions.  Some of these might best be shown as clips rather than the whole movie, but as always, these resources are designed for you to adapt to your own classroom needs as you deem necessary.  What are your favorite movies to show or recommend?

Infographics might be considered the intersection of information, illustration and design. They provide students with the opportunity to share information in a variety of ways. This post shares the story of one teacher and her implementation of a research project which culminated in an infographic. After a brief introduction (which includes an excellent interactive infographic, 13 Reasons Why Your Brain Craves Infographics). Following this introduction there are six components that are shared:

* Select an Infographic-Friendly Topic

* Begin the Drafting Process by Hand

* Choose the Right Templates or Software

* Refine Content and Design

* Infographic Resources and Tools for Educators

* Share and Critique

Each section provides additional detail and a number of resources that you will find helpful are included.

Indispensable tool for anyone who trains.

Becky Roehrs's curator insight, November 23, 2014 4:14 PM

The free version doesn't record audio, so use Jing which is free but only records 5 minute videos. Otherwise, pay for Screencast-O-Matic or pay for Snagit (Educator license)..Snagit has lots of features for screenshots and no limits on your video length.

The world's oldest living tree

The world's oldest living tree | Professional Learning | Scoop.it
At 4,841 years old, this ancient bristlecone pine is the oldest known non-clonal organism on Earth. Located in the White Mountains of California, in Inyo National Forest, Methuselah's exact location is kept a close secret in order to protect it from the public. (An older specimen named Prometheus, which was about 4,900 years old, was cut down by a researcher in 1964 with the U.S. Forest Service's permission.) Today you can visit the grove where Methuselah hides, but you'll have to guess at which tree it is. Could this one be it?

After reading this article, I am pleased to know that the world oldest non-clonal organism is located in California. It is amazing that a tree could still stand after almost 5,000 years. Hopefully, people do not destroy this tree, as it is fascinating.
