Feminism in France has its origins in the French Revolution. A few famous figures emerged during the 1871 Paris Commune, including Louise Michel, Russian-born Elisabeth Dmitrieff, Nathalie Lemel, and Renée Vivien (born in 1877). In November 1789, at the very beginning of the Revolution, the Women's Petition was addressed to the National Assembly but not discussed.
