Early Film: Women's Role -Post Women's Rights + War
The Women's Right Movement, 1848-1920, was the initial push for women's suffrage. Throughout the early 1900's to mid 1900's women's role in the home and outside the home changed drastically from the Victorian Domestic Housewife. At this time, women are beginning to have a voice and a huge role in film. Without women pushing so hard for equal rights, these films would be non-existent.

Gone With The Wind (1939)

Gone With The Wind (1939) | Early Film: Women's Role -Post Women's Rights + War | Scoop.it
Tori Russell's insight:

Gone With The Wind, written mostly in the 20s, not only has a strong female lead but written by strong female as well. It takes place during the American Civil war. It sets up the now typical "spoiled" female role.  In real life women and little say in much but could manipulate. This is a prime example of women manipulation to find a man. The female lead, Scarlett O' Hara isn't a feminist in the movie per say but she has a defiance to what is expected of women at this time, which sort of binds in a feminist mind set.

Iron Jawed Angels - Synopsis: 1912 to 1914

Iron Jawed Angels - Synopsis: 1912 to 1914
Tori Russell's insight:

In 2002 HBO released this film, Iron Jawed Angels. It isn't women's role in film, but more of a description of what ladies had to go through to get to where we are today.
