It's been twenty years since the historic Beijing World Conference on Women. That conference, and its declaration supported by 189 countries, was a high point of international cooperation to advance the rights of women. We have not seen such an unequivocal show of support for the rights of women and girls since. Last month, the United Nations Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon, upped the ante. He launched a new campaign for gender equality: 50:50 by 2030.
