Happy Workers Are More Productive: Science Proves It

Happy Workers Are More Productive: Science Proves It | Women in Business | Scoop.it

Companies in all sectors have been increasingly investing in the happiness of employees, with firms like Etsy going so far as to create a Gross Happiness Index, and Google gathering metrics to optimize the length of its free lunch lines (too long, and people are annoyed; too short, they don’t get to chit-chat).

But any investor should be able to measure its return, and now a group of U.K. researchers say they've provided the first scientifically-controlled evidence of the link between human happiness and productivity: Happier people are about 12% more productive, the study found.

How Men And Women Respond Differently To Stress

How Men And Women Respond Differently To Stress | Women in Business | Scoop.it

We all carry stress at one point or another. The feeling of being overwhelmed with responsibilities, to the point where our central nervous system begins to turn on us, is simply a part of life. Now new research suggests men and women tend to respond in markedly different ways.

Scientists from several international universities found that men under stress generally respond by becoming more withdrawn and acting more as an individual. Women, on the other hand, become prosocial. They share their stress with others, hoping to elicit empathy, and expect to be relied on when other members in their group are stressed, too. Where men become more self-centered, thinking their emotions are universally shared, women often become more compassionate, the team argues.

7 Habits of Remarkably Likeable Bosses

7 Habits of Remarkably Likeable Bosses | Women in Business | Scoop.it

ccording to recent research, 86 percent of employees believe that if they like their boss they are more productive. So forget about cracking the whip. Instead, build these seven habits into your leadership persona.

Sounds obvious, but simply taking a moment to greet your employees (by name!) and make small talk with them goes a long way to increasing your likeability as a boss. Be as approachable and accessible as possible. Take time to compliment employees and ask them how their day is going. Be patient; remember that it's important to set aside time for your people, no matter how busy you are. In fact, that busyness yours and theirs makes a friendly word even more important.
