Spotting Signs of Autism

Its incredibly helpful for parents to be able to spot the signs of Autism early.
The Geek Girl Show's insight:

Autism has become a critical issue in our society.  One of the major problems with the disorder itself lies in diagnosis.  Many parents are often reluctant to think that their child may have autism.  As a result, children often aren't diagnosed until they get into full-time social situations, i.e. daycare, preschool, first grade even. In these instances, precious time has been lost; time that could have spent preparing both parent and child with basic coping mechanisms as they approach the beginnings of school.

In this slideshow, Leslie Burby, editor of Autism Parenting Magazine, provides a glimpse of the early signs of autism.  She even gives us a glimpse into her own struggle in her daughter's diagnosis.

Children are our angels and they deserve the best that we can give them. Sometimes that means facing challenges early on so we can conquer later on.  Leslie will be my guest next month (August 2013) on The Geek Girl Show (www.thegeekgirlshow.com) to discuss this and other issues. It is sure to be an uplifting and enlightening show.  Be sure to check The Geek Girl Show site's Podcasts page for podcast post time.

Please feel free to share the slideshow.  You can also see the slideshow at: http://www.slideshare.net/autismparenting/spotting-signs-of-autism-22380007. ;

Bigger, Faster, Better: The Foreign Fashion Giant Set to Remake U.S. Retail

Bigger, Faster, Better: The Foreign Fashion Giant Set to Remake U.S. Retail | Everyday Geek Girl Stuff | Scoop.it
Retail analyst Hitha Prabhakar and Jeff Macke take a look at the world's largest fashion group as it ramps up an attack on American clothing retailers
The Geek Girl Show's insight:

I was wondering when someone was going to take note.  American retailers, with the exception of the likes of Anthropologie, retailers like Zara, Zalando (German/Multinational), and Boden (British) are currently the 'whats happening' in fashion.  As the writer notes, the foreign retailers are getting fresh and current fashion on the shelves quickly, while the American specialty stores look, in comparison, lame and outdated.

What the writer didn't mention is shipping, which is a complaint that I've heard a few people mention.  Mind you, these aren't necessarily people that have ordered from overseas, but the notion is there that if you order from a shop that is not state-side, you will wait and wait for your merchandise. Let me just tell you, that's a joke and simply not true.  I have actually received purchases from overseas much quicker than I would have expected.  The wait is worth it...much of the fashion that you can get from overseas is much more innovative, modern and for the money a farily decent quality. I am sorry to see Gap and A&F going the way of the do-do bird, but on the other hand, I'm hooked on Zara, Zalando, Boden and other 'foreign' retailers.  They seem to know what I like.
