U.S. seniors spend more money on doctors and drugs, but are they healthier than those in other countries?

A couple things that stood out: more older Americans than any other nation in the study skipped getting medical care because of costs. And a public health official suggested that the fact that older Americans are sicker than their counterparts in other countries is due to gaps in the healthcare they received at younger ages.

As a resident of the SF Bay Area, I find this deeply troubling. SF is all abuzz with its dire housing crunch and displaced residents, for which the high tech industry is often blamed. Maybe we should turn some of our innovations and connections to good purpose here.

A school bus drops off the students at the senior center soon after 8 a.m. and picks them up after lunch.

Great example of intergenerational program that benefits high school students and older adults.  Starting with students interested in pursuing careers in nursing, now involves students from many different clubs (culinary arts, horticulture, Interact, Future Business Leaders), who put on such events as Valentine's Day party and Senior Prom.
