Radio is Bad at Technology, but…

Radio is Bad at Technology, but… | Wiseband | Scoop.it
All right, let's just say it. Radio is really bad at technology.

Technology today is helping to broaden the definition of brands and transform them into experiences. In fact, the future of brands is as experiences across media and platforms.

But it begins with recognizing that your brand is more than your station and more than your stream – it’s the center of an experience that has less to do with the brand itself than the way it intersects with the lives of its consumers.

Because while radio may be bad at technology, radio can be superb at humanity.

Radio’s streaming listeners are less mobile.

Radio’s streaming listeners are less mobile. | Wiseband | Scoop.it
Why don't people listen to radio as much on streaming devices? New Triton Digital data from January shows broadcast radio streams split 80/20 in favor of listening on desktops.

It showed pureplays with a 70/30 split in favor of mobile listening, driven by Pandora.   However broadcast streams did see an 18% increase in mobile listening in January, which Triton says was the fastest growing sector of the month. Pureplay desktop and mobile listening remained relatively consistent at a 2% and 3% gain respectively.

Can APIs Solve Music’s 'Crisis of Innovation'?

Can APIs Solve Music’s 'Crisis of Innovation'? | Wiseband | Scoop.it

here’s an old saw among established technology companies that says innovation happens elsewhere, that big ideas can come from small, unexpected places.

The best way to tap into that potential, according to this view, is to throw open the gates and let all developers build products on top of your existing, proprietary technology. Make it easy for developers, and good things are bound to happen.

That, at least, has been the ethos behind the steady stream of music-related application software interfaces, or APIs. Last month, two companies, Gracenote and MediaNet, quietly added their APIs into the mix.

5 Aspects Of The Old Music Industry Being Disrupted And Replaced By Social Media - hypebot

5 Aspects Of The Old Music Industry Being Disrupted And Replaced By Social Media - hypebot | Wiseband | Scoop.it

In a widely noted Billboard interview, Amanda Palmer stated that "Twitter has replaced Google and [music] management." Nobody cared about the Google part but her claim of replacing music management certainly raised a few eyebrows. Of course, like many such claims, it wasn't totally true but it did provide an interesting example of the disruptive power of social media to replace expensive professional roles with cheap, good enough solutions.

Bianca Netto's curator insight, November 10, 2013 11:28 PM

You never notice how much social media affects this industry until you read an article like this. I never took into account the amount of jobs that are essentially becoming obsolete because it can just be replaced by social media.
