Wise Women Will Save the World
The focus of this page is on the diverse ways in which women are influencing those around them to move towards a state of social, environmental and economic sustainability.   The world’s largest source of renewable energy is the untapped potential of women and girls. Everywhere we are hearing the declaration, 'Enough is Enough', as women voice their collective discontent and anger at the hand they have been dealt in a world dominated by masculine values.   We are currently seeing the emergence of a global movement that blends three key phenomena:   • The empathic nature of girls and women  • Collective human wisdom  • Digital technology    This movement will be lead by ‘wise women’, who will fully exploit this timely fit between empathy, wisdom and the digital revolution. The essence of empathy and wisdom is invisible, a product of mind and spirit. As such, it can be rapidly shared and amplified across the globe via digital means.     See also:   Website – http://wisewomenwill.com  • Facebook – http://goo.gl/7ysn27  • Twitter – http://goo.gl/EO5cSU • Google+ – http://goo.gl/kjSgF4 • Pinterest – http://goo.gl/nWk3Ji

Keep Connecting Dots

What do rising sea levels in Bangladesh, the break up of public utilities in Ghana and austerity in the UK have in common?

They’re all part of the same global story. The story of one global economy that connects various economic, political, environmental and societal crises faced by communities around the world.

By asking questions of this story - how is everything connected? Who connected it and what did they connect it for? - we start to uncover the self-evident truths of the one global economy; the single set of rules that govern the whole world (rules like ‘growth at all costs’); the tiny elite group of people who wield power intentionally at the global level; and the fact that the people with the most power in the global system are those who hold on to it to promote their interests.

Graeme & Jennifer Bowman's insight:

Clear, clever and creative message about a complex issue.

Advocates hope a movie can make the difference in ending child marriage

Advocates hope a movie can make the difference in ending child marriage | Wise Women Will Save the World | Scoop.it

In the southern part of Ethiopia, abducting children and forcing them into marriage is still a common practice. But advocates have found a unique way to change public opinion about this tradition: making and screening the award-winning film, Difret.

Graeme & Jennifer Bowman's insight:

Statistics alone don't change anything. Only engaged hearts and minds that care deeply about the problem have any hope of affecting change. Highly creative, artistic forms of expression, like this movie, are the key to deep engagement.

Filthy Nude Women Tip a Bucket on Greedy Oil Companies

Performance in Ibiza, Spain to raise awareness about the dangers of the oil industry. Using the right to public nudity guaranteed by the Spanish Constitution, Jil Love, her Love Revolution, and an enthusiastic group of volunteers strolled through the streets of Ibiza Town smeared with a shiny mixture of Cola Cao, flour, and oil, which rendered them as dirty and greasy as birds and marine creatures affected by a potential oil spill.

Six female Artivists walked around with signs, dead fish and money covered by oil. We were making people think, raising awareness and spreading consciousness and igniting people to action to protect and save the Island of love and magic from the corrupted politicians and greedy and selfish oil diggers.

Graeme & Jennifer Bowman's insight:

If you don't like the way things are, then DO something. Don't just show graphs and statistics, and write lengthy chunks of text. DO something that connects with people on a visceral and spiritual level.

Diversity & Inclusion – Love Has No Labels - YouTube

While the vast majority of Americans consider themselves unprejudiced, many of us unintentionally make snap judgments about people based on what we see—whether it’s race, age, gender, religion, sexuality, or disability. This may be a significant reason many people in the U.S. report they feel discriminated against. Subconscious prejudice—called “implicit bias”—has profound implications for how we view and interact with others who are different from us. It can hinder a person’s ability to find a job, secure a loan, rent an apartment, or get a fair trial, perpetuating disparities in American society. The Love Has No Labels campaign challenges us to open our eyes to our bias and prejudice and work to stop it in ourselves, our friends, our families, and our colleagues.

Graeme & Jennifer Bowman's insight:

Brilliant use of advanced technology to explore old issues in a new and unique way.

Your Chance to Tip a Bucket on Patriarchy

Your Chance to Tip a Bucket on Patriarchy | Wise Women Will Save the World | Scoop.it

Did you know we are putting on a satirical show at the forthcoming Melbourne International Comedy Festival, called Patriarchy – where would we be without you? It blends both the visual and performing arts, binding them together with humour and deep, disturbing truths.

The picture above – created by Jennifer – is one of a series that will form part of our set. The idea is to explore the theme of the invisible woman, which reflects the lack of recognition of women's achievements throughout history, and of their unpaid contribution to society in general. Our message is that, without women, each picture is incomplete, but the presence of the woman is taken for granted and relegated to the shadows.

Graeme & Jennifer Bowman's insight:

Running from March 30 to April 5, the show is the first ever live production from Wise Women Will Save the World. We hope folk perceive it as an example of the type of communication and entertainment we need to see a lot more of: ordinary families or other like minded groups using whatever skills and resources they have to create something new that gets people talking about the really big issues we can't afford to ignore. (It's our firm belief that much of this coming avalanche of non-linear, highly influential messaging is going to be initiated by women with a specific blend of expertise and wisdom.)

Now, as the patriarchy haven't offered to finance their own undoing, we're going down the non-patriarchal path of crowdfunding, to cover key expenses. Click here to see the Pozible campaign. (Even if you are not in a position to contribute yourself, it would help enormously if you could tell all those rich friends of yours about the campaign.)

It hasn't always been a man's world. Amy Logan.

After escaping a violent relationship, author and activist Amy Logan began a decade long journey into researching the origins and history of honor killing. What she discovered is that it has not always been a man’s world, thus bringing us to realize our present does not have to be our future.

A global women’s human rights activist, Amy Logan is the author of The Seven Perfumes of Sacrifice and the Consulting Producer for the documentary, “The Price of Honor”. As an independent scholar, Amy has presented her research on honor violence against women at New York University’s Global Secularisms conference, Oxford University’s Women’s Leadership Symposium, and many others.

As a two time survivor of gender-based violence, she’s shedding light on the previously unknown origins of “honor killing”, unveiling why Americans should care about it, and how we can transform it. Her mission is to empower women to co-create a world with men where everyone thrives.
Graeme & Jennifer Bowman's insight:

Wise Women Know that Myths and 'Rules of Thumb' can be Fatal.

Wise Women Know that Myths and 'Rules of Thumb' can be Fatal. | Wise Women Will Save the World | Scoop.it

Cognitive psychologist Dr Ullrich Ecker from the University of Western Australia studies the science of misinformation. He said he isn’t surprised that a small minority of people are rejecting scientific facts for anecdotal evidence. With the deluge of information we are faced with nowadays, Dr Ecker explained, it’s increasingly difficult for people to effectively process scientific evidence with clarity.

Instead of spending time critically analysing information – which takes up precious cognitive resources – people turn to what’s familiar. "We turn to 'heuristics' – mental rules of thumb to make decisions and what to believe and what not. So they ask themselves: 'How does [this information] fit in with what I already believe? What do others believe? What is relevant to me, my peers and my friends?'" This is a normal cognitive process, he added. But it can be problematic if what you and your peers believe is wrong, and not back by scientific evidence.

Graeme & Jennifer Bowman's insight:

The people who are going to put this planet back on its axis are fully aware of the complexity of the task. They also know that many people can't (or don't want to) deal with complexity, and so take mental short cuts to simplify their decision making. For genuine change-makers, understanding the dangers of mental short-cuts is essential. While the topic of this article is vaccinations, the point of our post is broader – the way people arrive at their opinions and decisions.

From Hell to Hope: Freedom Tattoos

The "Freedom Tattoos" project goal is to transform crude, hideous amateur tattoos made in prisons and juvenile detention centers into professional, socially well-perceived artistic tattoos, that will help them find a job.
