What happens if you remove an acceptable use policy from guest Wi-Fi?

What happens if you remove an acceptable use policy from guest Wi-Fi? | Winning in IT | Scoop.it
At Interop 2015, one IT pro described what happened to his guest Wi-Fi network after removing the acceptable use policy (AUP) page users once had to click through to obtain access.
Kelvin Prescott's insight:

This is a key thing to do to widen digital access to services, and to improve the experience for citizens in public spaces. I know that the same issue exists in the UK public sector (and many private sector organisations as well). Question is always: who is responsible for the use you make of an internet connection? Self evidently its the user.

What would help a lot is some case law or, though it grates to suggest it, some legislation, that removes from the internet access provider any liability for the actions of users. Clarity on this (along with, perhaps, some standards in relation to when and whether an ISP should monitor and report suspicious activity), would go a long way to helping the everyday experience of users.

5G researchers achieve record speed

5G researchers achieve record speed | Winning in IT | Scoop.it
Scientists researching 5G at the University of Surrey achieve data connection many thousands of times faster than the average 4G.
Kelvin Prescott's insight:

And so it goes on. I wonder whether the current emphasis on the importance of quad play service providers (i..e those that can offer mobile, fixed line, broadband and tv) is missing the point? Mobile transmission is reaching the point where the only purpose of a fixed line service is to fill in holes in mobile coverage.

There is a world, not too far from now, where you will buy a broadband router, put a 4G (or 5G) SIM in it, and not bother with the fixed line in the first place.

GEORGE OSBORNE can be forgiven a bit of global gloating when he delivers his final budget as chancellor of the exchequer on March 18th. Britain did, after all, grow...
Kelvin Prescott's insight:

I want to link this up with some of the other research that I've seen on mobile productivity. There's clearly a big gap between the story being told by the technology industry (which is, broadly, that "mobile working unleashes significant improvements in productivity, you can't stay viable as a business unless you adopt it"), and the cold hard economic facts, which show that the UK as a whole hasn't improved its productivity in the last 7 years.

Either:

1. The evidence of improved productivity from mobile working is a myth

2. There  are other negative factors that are pulling productivity back.
