Selvagrossa Wines Le Marche

Selvagrossa Wines Le Marche | Wines and People | Scoop.it

Selvagrossa is one of the most fascinating emerging properties in the Marche. The Cabernet Franc Poveriano in particular is showing remarkable potential. Brothers Alessandro and Alberto Taddei certainly seem to be on the right track
The 2008 Poveriano (Cabernet Franc) emerges from the glass with expressive dark red fruit, grilled herbs, licorice and spices. Initially a touch compact, the wine fills out nicely on the mid-palate and finish.

The 2008 Trimpilin (Sangiovese) shows limited depth in its fruit, with hard, angular tannins that clamp down on the finish. Both bottles I tasted were lean and compact, suggesting underripe fruit.

The 2009 Muschen is a pretty entry-level red. Sweet floral and red berry flavors come together nicely in this mid-weight, fresh wine meant for near-term enjoyment. Muschen is 50% Sangiovese, 30% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc.

Silvano Strologo: quality wines of Le Marche

Silvano Strologo: quality wines of Le Marche | Wines and People | Scoop.it

This small family-run farming company was created by a group of farmers, who decided to start cultivating vines in the 1960s.

A particular microclimate influenced by the sun-drenched hills and vicinity to the sea, make cultivation of vines particularly favourable. The ground in the zone of Conero is calcareous (chalky), residing on a base of clay and it is well adapted to cultivation of vines.

Fattoria Serra San Martino Serra De' Conti Le Marche

Fattoria Serra San Martino Serra De' Conti Le Marche | Wines and People | Scoop.it

The Fattoria Serra San Martino lies in the heart of the Le Marche region, about 20 kms from the Adriatic coast in the hills of the Ancona hinterland.
Kirsten and Thomas Weydemann, both passionate for red wine, italian culture and style of life, have researched and found the perfect place for a vineyard project.
Nowadays the vineyards are located on the slopes facing the south and west, at an altitude of 220m above sea level. Set half way between the Adriatic Sea and the Apennine Mountains, they are aerated by cool winds even during the hot summer months. The surface of the soil is characterized by clay and lime. Lower levels are predominantly sand and shell limestone.
As a consequence of the unique micro climate and the radical reduction of the harvest a superior quality of grape is guaranteed...

Genius Loci Massignano Le Marche: the genius of the place

Genius Loci Massignano Le Marche: the genius of the place | Wines and People | Scoop.it

The meeting point between the agronomist, Marco Cavalieri, and the investor, Franz Joseph Wagner, in an antique Vineyard looking to the adriatic sea, where the salty perfume of the water cross road with those of the grapes bunches ready to be harvested, has given birth to this project GENIUS LOCI which is deeply rooted in an antique traditions dating to the romans time,XX centuries ago. This latin sentence reminds the reader of a protective divinity strictly tied to a specific place that means the creative force of mankind...

Verdicchio Vecchie Vigne 2009 Italian White Wine of the Year 2012

Verdicchio is, in my opinion, one of Italy’s best white grapes but remains unfairly underrated. Incredibly versatile, it can be made crisp and dry through to full-bodied and the best examples retain a racy freshness. Vecchie Vigne is made from old vines, planted in 1973, and the grapes are picked slightly over ripe. In the winery its hands-off winemaking; natural yeast, no wood, minimal malolactic fermentation and extended bottle age...

KURNI - Oasi degli Angeli: Montepulciano from Le Marche

KURNI - Oasi degli Angeli: Montepulciano from Le Marche | Wines and People | Scoop.it

Marco Casolanetti and his wife Eleonora Rossi own a little agriturismo surrounded by their vineyards and olive groves in the heart of the Marche region. Old indigenous variety, respect for the terroir and modern techniques are the winning blend of their only wine: Kurni.

Produced from a 1.4 ha vineyard high up in Cupra Marittima, and made from Montepulciano grapes. This wine shows a wonderfully deep, liquoricey nose with a lifted herbal, slightly leafy edge. It has an amazingly rich, full palate with a fascinating texture and lots of bright full acidity. It’s hard to describe: almost liqueur like, with great concentration. An intense, juicy yet complex red wine that is very individual.

Ned Swain Tasted 2007 Piantate Lunghe Rosso Conero Wine

Ned Swain Tasted 2007 Piantate Lunghe Rosso Conero Wine | Wines and People | Scoop.it

Vintage: 2007 Varietal: 100% Montepulciano I don't really know how to introduce this wine. It's currently one of my favorites.

Aroma: Intense. It smells like what I want my kitchen to smell like on a sunday afternoon in January; namely, baking spices, cinnamon, raspberry, blueberry (both fresh and cooked), hints of smoke, charred meat, and hints of baking chocolate.

Palate: Richly textured and with dark fruit, this is a lush and very authentically Italian tasting wine. The mouth feel is smooth and refined while the flavors are dense blueberry, pepper, and hints of smoke. It's not a super complex wine, but very well balanced, approachable, and utterly delicious.

Organic Wines Le Marche: Clara Marcelli, Castorano

These organic wines reach real highs on all score boards. The pecorino is golden coloured, full bodied, fragrant. The Piceno superiore (70% Montepulciano, 30% Sangiovese) deep and fruity, but the exceptional ‘K’un’ (100% Montepulciano) with 30 months in oak and tasting of black fruit, spice and chocolate is the best.
It’s well worth a visit though because only few Piceno wines are available in the UK or US but surely more should be arrive in the future.

Fazi Battaglia, Le Marche - the history and the present of the Verdicchio

Fazi Battaglia, Le Marche - the history and the present of the Verdicchio | Wines and People | Scoop.it

Dynamic and innovative are the two terms the best describe Fazi Battaglia. Yet, it is a winery of great history and world fame, the one who made the fortunes of Verdicchio, one of Italy's most cherished native grape varieties.
In 1949 the intuition and courage of entrepreneur Francesco Angelini, convinced of the Verdicchio grapes' enormous potential, pushed him to produce a small winery with an annual production of 60,000 bottles in Cupramontana, in the central Italian region of Le Marche.

Le Marche Wine Excellence: Marotti Campi Morro d'Alba

Le Marche Wine Excellence: Marotti Campi Morro d'Alba | Wines and People | Scoop.it

Morro D’Alba is a medieval village situated between the towns of Jesi and Senigallia. Here, on gently rolling hills framed by both the Appenine Mountains and the Adriatic sea, lies Sant’Amico, a settlement which dates back to Roman Times.
The winery Marotti Campi was built in 1999 and is represented by Giovanni and Francesca with their son Lorenzo and they are proud to vinify exclusively their grapes. The capacity is 6000 and they use pneumatic press where the hand-picked grapes are softly crushed. For the white wines they use reductive techniques to preserve the vibrant, fresh varietal grape character, we use dry ice during the harvest and azote in the winery to lower the grapes temperature and lessen the oxidation of the flavours. Marotti Campi stores the bottles in a temperature controlled environment at 10-18°C providing optimal ageing conditions. In 2010 we have installed solar panels achieving energy self-sufficiency
The estate totals 120 hectares, of which 52 are vineyards that lie on hillsides at approximately 180 meters above the sea level. The soil is mixed predominantly clay...
