Also: Bianchello del Metauro, Colli Maceratesi, Colli Pesaresi, Esino, Falerio dei Colli Ascolani, I Terreni di Sanseverino, Lacrima di Morro d'Alba, Rosso Conero, Pergola, Rosso Piceno, San Ginesio Many of these wines are little known outside of Italy but visitors to the region have a pleasant surprise when they try the local wine produced by many small aziendas and cantinas.

Le Marche Wines in US: Meridia Verdicchio di Matelica DOC 2010, Belisario

Le Marche Wines in US: Meridia Verdicchio di Matelica DOC 2010, Belisario | Wines and People | Scoop.it

The Meridia, made from 100% Verdicchio grapes, harvested just at their ripeness to preserve all the acidic heritage of the must. The wine is then over ripened in the cellar, in old glassed concrete tanks; it is the time that works to create the maximum sensory profile of the wine. If stones could have a flavor, then it would be that of Meridia, a mineral, savory, acidic, long, full-bodied, goldish-yellow wine. We suggest matching it with semi-aged cheeses, elaborated fish recipes, well structured pastas, white meats or as a long night aperitif wine. It is an important wine for people who love to take their time and really romance the wine.

Mariano Pallottini's insight:

Enoteca Vino Nostro is a wine shop in San Francisco a store and online destination for artisanal, obscure, and most importantly, affordable Italian wines. Collection of wines from the diverse territories of Italy made from lesser-known grapes. A good place in San Francisco to find Le Marche wines.

Belisario "Le Salse" Verdicchio di Matelica 2011

Belisario "Le Salse" Verdicchio di Matelica 2011 | Wines and People | Scoop.it

Crystal clear with almost no color, if anything maybe a tinge of yellow-green. Quite strong floral and ripe fruit aromas. Smooth (yet intense) green apple and mineral taste with a crisp finish. Very delicious sipping wine and the refreshing green apple flavors make it Very Easy Drinking. The acidity goes extremely well with the creamy smooth cheddar cheese. I grew up on a farm in Norton, New Jersey (about 100 miles West of New York City) and this wine really reminds me of Spring time smells on the farm…fresh fruit blossoms and aromas associated with clean, light green fields of hay after an April shower. Wow, it’s good wine!!! The Verdicchio grape makes a very Unique wine and I would buy it again in a flash….and it’s a bargain wine at $11.20. I love Pinot Grigio and this Verdicchio is right up there with the best of them.

Le Marche Wines in Ireland: Belisario Verdicchio di Matelica `Vigneti del Cerro`

Le Marche Wines in Ireland: Belisario Verdicchio di Matelica `Vigneti del Cerro` | Wines and People | Scoop.it

Today, it is the biggest producer of Verdicchio in the Matelica DOC, a smaller zone than Castello di Jesi. The climate here is more continental than in Castelli di Jesi and the combination of warm days and cool nights gives a longer growing season, and lovely aromatic qualities to the wines.

  • Tasting Notes: Belisario Verdicchio di Matelica `Vigneti del Cerro`

Pale with green highlights.  Abundant aromas of vibrant grapefruit, white flowers and hints of honey dominate the nose. The palate shows refreshing acidity, interesting mineral characters, a light hint of ripe fruit and a final burst of zingy lemon to lift the finish. A beautifully balanced wine, with a soft mouthfeel that retains a wonderful lifted, fresh character.

Belisario Terre Di Valbona Verdicchio di Matelica, Le Marche

Belisario Terre Di Valbona Verdicchio di Matelica, Le Marche | Wines and People | Scoop.it

Verdicchio is always a wine I buy and enjoy often when it crops up on bar menus. A friend pointed out to me the other day that most of the Verdicchio's we enjoy are from the Castelli di Jesi DOC area. The "other" verdicchio producing DOC is the far smaller and inland 'Matelica' DOC. [...]
The Terre di Valbona is a tasty little number with a fresh, almost lemony nose . The acidity is very pleasant and is perfect for this fish, soaked in garlic and oil. The fish itself is plain tasting except for my additions but has a fleshy white meat texture. Give it a go - I imagine it it is great in curries and similar dishes that have an abundance of spice and flavours.
I want to taste more of these wines. The mineral flavours are quite intense and full of vibrancy. A good food wine. I'd like to have it with monk fish next time.
A quick factoid: Belisario is a co operative producer, the biggest in Matelica. The word Belisario is also a tragic opera based on the famous 6th century General Belasarius, of the Byzantine period. So there you go… a wine with mighty intentions. The only tragedy is the difficulty in acquiring wines from this region!
