The First International Competition of Wines for Fish

The First International Competition of Wines for Fish | Wines and People | Scoop.it

Ancona, Riviera del Conero, May 09th-11th 2012

Although this may appear to be the first edition, the International Competition of Wines for Fish is just an evolution of ''Selezione Vini da Pesce'' which celebrated its 12th edition in 2011 but which was actually created in the 1960s. The competition was conceived around the two themes which, even today, render the competition unique: the intrinsic link between wine and the sea.
The Riviera del Conero acts as a meeting point between them:if wine is able to express a land, the sea is able to hold many stories.
The numbers of samples has progressively increased over the years with a representation from across the Italian peninsular. In 2011, 600 wines took part in the cmpetition, with wines from every Italian region.
Across the different subsections of the two categories ''still wines'' and ''sparkling wines'', the wines will be evaluated using the method of the Union Internationale des Oenologues.
A diploma award will be given to all wines which gain at least 80pts. From these, for each category, gold, silver and bronze awards will be given to the wines with the highest scores. The winery which gains the highest points overall will be awarded the ''Calice Dorico''.

Making My Own Wine In Le Marche

Making My Own Wine In Le Marche | Wines and People | Scoop.it

...It was our chance to make our own wine. A group of Marco’s friends joined us and accompanied by a wine expert we started by trying various combinations of vintages to see what we wanted to make. We agreed on a combination that we all liked and then got to know each other as well as how wine is made while blending the wine, inserting corks, adding foil, designing and adding labels, we called the wine my Oinos (Oinos being the ancient Greek work for wine, which reminds of the Greek roots of the town). This amazing day ended with us drinking our own wine and having a B-B-Q together, it was a great bonding experience.

Poggio Montali and the Esino Bianco Doc in Le Marche

Poggio Montali and the Esino Bianco Doc in Le Marche | Wines and People | Scoop.it

The production area of the Esino Bianco white wine is most of the province of Ancona and a large area of Macerata.

A very slight straw colour with greenish reflections.

A characteristic intense nose and a fresh dry taste very similar to verdicchio given that a minimum of 50% verdicchio grape is used in it's production. The rest is made up of white grapes of the production zone authorised by the D.O.C. authorities - normally Trebbiano and/or Malvasia. Minimum alcohol content 10.5%. A sparkling (frizzante) version is also produced, minimum alcohol content 9.5%.
Served at a temperature between 9° and 12°, accompanies most 1st courses, white meats and due to it's lower alcohol grading does not overpower the most delicate fish dishes, molluscs and crustaceans.

Verdicchio: the wine identity of Le Marche

Verdicchio: the wine identity of Le Marche | Wines and People | Scoop.it

When we use to talk about Ancona and its Province, it comes immediately up to our mind identifying with them one of the most famous products: the “Verdicchio”. It is a vine exclusively cultivated in Marche Region, with white berry and suitable for the production of fresh wines with a remarkable longevity; it can be used also for as classic as Charmat method sparkling white wines. The name Verdicchio comes for sure from its greenish coloured grape, also after its maturation. It seems that its origins go even back to the XVI century. The Verdicchio had a great characterization thanks to the architect Maiocchi. In fact, over ’50 years period the architect drew an amphor shaped bottle in order to enhance the wine quality and the sinuosity of Marche Region landscape morphology. The colour of Verdicchio is straw-yellow, and, accordingly to its maturation, it can vary on shades that go from greenish to golden. The alcoholic gradation goes from 11.5° to 12.5°C. It is important to store it at about 10°/12° C; when you serve it as aperitif, please keep the bottle at 8°/10° C...
