Oddballs from Tourain - wineloverspage.com

Oddballs from Tourain - wineloverspage.com | Wine in the World | Scoop.it

Read Robin Garr's review of four slightly off-the-wall wines from Tourain.

I'm a big fan of Tourain and it's great to see somebody in the USA taking the effort to review some less conventional wines. It's only by exploring that we discover what we like.

Riesling, in Many Languages - Wine Enthusiast

Riesling, in Many Languages - Wine Enthusiast | Wine in the World | Scoop.it

Wine Enthusiast outlines seven Riesling regions, complete with recommendations is each one.

Follow a world tour of this classical perfomer. From it's home in Germany to the southern extremeties of New Zealand. It's well worth a read.

Personally I find there's no reasoning with Riesling. What about you?

Bubbling up in Otago?

Rudi Bauer, wine maker at Quartz Reef, says that more producers are following his trailblazing sparkling wine production.

Central Otago is best know for its savoury Pinot Noirs. Will they really get a higher premium price for sparkling wines, or will this just be a niche product? I'm not sure.

Hong Kong wine tech - SMH

Hong Kong wine tech - SMH | Wine in the World | Scoop.it

It seems that Hong Kong is where the latest wine technology is taking root.

Many people joke about wine and the Chinese at their expense. How many times have I heard the Bordeaux & Coca Cola story. Well, it looks to me like there's a lot more going on in Hong Kong than bigotted fools think!

Read about the interactive tastng experiences at Amo Eno. I want to hop on a plane now and investigate. Anyone seen anything similar??

28-50 to launch second branch - The Drinks Business | Wine in the World | Scoop.it

Have you ever been to 28-50? It's one of London's finest wine bars, with a braod and adventurous range.

Word on the street is that Xavier Rousset and Agnar Sverrisson are opening second branch, this time in swanky Marylebone. If I were in London, then I'd be rushing along for the opening.

Fine wine really can be a con - NZ Herald News

Fine wine really can be a con - NZ Herald News | Wine in the World | Scoop.it

Read how Simon Mickelson duped investors and ran a NZ$1.3m (US$1.06m) scam.

"Plausible and well-connected" are words that crop up in this tale of wine skullduggery. Switching labels on bottles of Laffite, robbing one client to pay another and driving around in flash motors pretending his grandmother had died. All in a day's graft it seems.

It shows just how easy it is to be taken in by a conman. Bang him up, I say.

The Great New Zealand Pinot Noir Classification 2012 - Matthew Jukes

Matthew Jukes, one of the UK's most influential wine writers, has released his 2012 classification of NZ Pinot Noir producers.

Compiled with Tyson Stelzer, it uses a 5-year movign average of quality to pick out the top producers in the land of the long white cloud.

Personally, I'd have Forrest, Neudorf and Nanny Goat rated above Villa Maria - but that's just me. Take a peek, see if you agree and maybe pick out something you think you should give a try.

An interview with MIchel Roland about his book (In French)

An interview with MIchel Roland about his book (In French) | Wine in the World | Scoop.it

Michel Roland is probably one of the most loved and most loathed characters in French wine.

Read this short interview about his book. It translates well with Google.

Is he a demon, making all wines bigger, bolder, cleaner versions of themselves? Or, the devil, pushing wines towards a single regional character. This certainly shows some of the complexity of the man.

Mark Driver, an ex-fund manager, has invested to set up England's largest wine estate.

Read how he plans to produce sparkling wines in East Sussex and get a quick idea of what the other main UK players are up to. Wine sounds so much more fun to produce than brussel sprouts.

French banks buy up more of Bordeaux - decanter.com

French banks buy up more of Bordeaux - decanter.com | Wine in the World | Scoop.it

André Lurton is selling an 18% stake in his Bordeaux wine company to Credit Agricole Grands Crus.

In a time when banking seems to be on the ropes in Europe, the CA seems to be digging deep to take a big stake in yet another Bordeaux venture.

Personally, I find the ownership of much of Bordeaux's vineyards by banks and insurance companies a little bit odd, especially seeeing how many of these companies have had to receive state bailouts over the years. How about you?

New Zealand Pinot Noir 2009 - Decanter

New Zealand Pinot Noir 2009 - Decanter | Wine in the World | Scoop.it

I love a good Kiwi Pinot Noir and so it seems does the Decanter Panel.

Read through this selection of 28 New Zealand Pinots and see which might tickle your fancy.

It's great to see some smaller names in there, mixed up with the ones that we usually expect. They've included some of my faves: Neudorf Home Block, Martinborough Vineyards and the outstanding value Spinyback from Waimea.

There are a few I've never tried, so maybe more "research and development" is required?

Chateauneuf du Pape thrives partly because it's the most sophisticated sounding French name that Anglophones can pronounce, but is the wine any good?

If you love Shiraz, enjoy Grenache, or marvel at Mouvedre, then this might be for you. Read Jeff Leve's tasting notes of the 2010 vintage and maybe pick out one or two that you should try.

Bubbles the next big thing in NZ? - NZ Herald

Bubbles the next big thing in NZ? - NZ Herald | Wine in the World | Scoop.it

Dr Tony Jordan, one of the kings of sparkling wine, is tipping NZ for it's bubbly potential.

I've tried a sparkling savvie or two and I can't say I've been impressed. Cloudy Bay's Pelorus has been around for a while and there are some niche examples of great fizz in New Zealand, but can they afford the investment to produce great quality bubbles?

With England and Argentina already on their way to gaseous greatness, do you think there's room for the Kiwis too?

Should tasting notes be descriptive or informative? - Eater.com

Should tasting notes be descriptive or informative? - Eater.com | Wine in the World | Scoop.it

Should wine notes purely be a description of the characteristics your nose and mouth with encounter? I enjoyed this article partly because it stands conventional wisdom on its head.

Talia Baiocchi suggest that tradition wine notes aren't very useful to the average drinker or restaurant customer. She suggests more generalised descriptors mixed up with background. I like her hint of limiting descriptions to Twit-lengths.

Take a minute and see if you agree?

I wonder how much more it costs to buy this one locally?
