Moet-Hennessy announces locally-produced sparkling for India | decanter.com

Moet-Hennessy announces locally-produced sparkling for India | decanter.com | Wine in the World | Scoop.it
Moet-Hennessy has unveiled plans to release a domestic sparkling wine in India, after investing in the Nashik region north-east of Mumbai.
David Swaddle's insight:

Moet from India? It's interesting to read that the driving force is price, rather than anything else.

At £71 for a local NV Champagne, it's hardly surprising that they're looking to celebrate with something a bit cheaper. However, it's going to be interesting to see if this is the answer.

Quite how they expect to grow any decent grapes in Nashik I have no idea. It doesn't get below 20 degrees at night for four months of the year, so you'd definitely have to call in a hot climate. Most wine regions lie between 28-50 degrees from the equator. This is at 20 degrees and only 600m above sea level.

I can't wait to taste it!

Sam Lindo makes some cracking wines that sit well alongside the best bubbles. I'm still not sure where I can get them in Sydney though.

Rudi Bauer, wine maker at Quartz Reef, says that more producers are following his trailblazing sparkling wine production.

Central Otago is best know for its savoury Pinot Noirs. Will they really get a higher premium price for sparkling wines, or will this just be a niche product? I'm not sure.

Fact or Fiction: Does a Spoon in the Bottle Keep Champagne Bubbly?: Scientific American

Fact or Fiction: Does a Spoon in the Bottle Keep Champagne Bubbly?: Scientific American | Wine in the World | Scoop.it
A persistent bit of kitchen folklore appears to have little basis in fact
David Swaddle's insight:

Have you ever put a spoon in the top of a Champagne bottle to help preserve the fizz? I have. And, now I discover that it's a waste of time!

Screw-capped sparkling??

Screw-capped sparkling?? | Wine in the World | Scoop.it

De Bortoli are launching a screwcapped sparkling wine.

Apprently opening bubbly wines puts the girls off! certainly not the girls I know. In fact, I know quite a few people who say that the "pop" is one of their favourite sounds.

What do you think? Has somebody got a screw loose?

It seems that English bankers are digging the vine - FT.com

Mark Driver, an ex-fund manager, has invested to set up England's largest wine estate.

Read how he plans to produce sparkling wines in East Sussex and get a quick idea of what the other main UK players are up to. Wine sounds so much more fun to produce than brussel sprouts.

What do you think? Do you enjoy a drop of English wine?
