Red wine and cola? Calimocho

Red wine and cola? Calimocho | Wine in the World | Scoop.it

Many moons ago, in my youth, it was the pre-night club drink of choice among my peers. Red wine and cola, colloquially known a Calimocho, is being targeted by Spodee with a fortified red wine designed for mixing.

The article compares it to depression-era wine, but personally I think it's more like desperation era marketing.

What do you think? Fizzy water, sugar and caffeine anybody??? Surely that would never take off.

Campogate - Parker responds

Campogate - Parker responds | Wine in the World | Scoop.it

The Drinks Business reports on Campogate.

Robert Parker has posted the results of an investigation into "payments" received for tastings in Spain on The Wine Advocate website.

While heads have rolled, it seems that TWA doesn't see anything too wrong with what happened. It says that no payments were taken for reviews.

Waddayathink?

Marques de Riscal send the "wrong" 2004 for review

Marques de Riscal send the "wrong" 2004 for review | Wine in the World | Scoop.it

It seems that Marques de Riscal accidentally sent the "wrong" 2004 Gran Reserva for review to Spanish paper El Mundo.

According to my Google translation, they accidentally sent a bottle of the 150 Year Anniversary Reserva 2004 instead. That's quite a mistake as they are effectively two different wines and the switch implied a much better quality.

Oops!

To be fair, they have offered to exchange any bottles of the Gran Reserva that people bought because of the review for the more expensive 150 anniversary reserva. That's a pretty good deal, if you ask me.

Have you seen a review of the 2004 Riscal Reserva anywhere else? I wonder if they were sent an incorrectly labelled bottle too?

No Cellar Required - NYT

No Cellar Required - NYT | Wine in the World | Scoop.it

In this informative little mini tasting, NYT’s Eric Asimov tastes his way around the reservas of Rioja.

As he points out, Rioja reservas are a great value way of buying some good wines with a bit of age on them. They’re usually food wines and are often ready to drink from the time they hit the market.

Favourites of mine that were chosen include Viña Tondonia, Viña Ardanza and Muga. Oh, I wish I could hop on a plane to Spain.
