Wines of the week - David Williams

Wines of the week - David Williams | Wine in the World | Scoop.it

The Guardian seem to be staying on course and recommending some grapes and regions you might not have tried.

How about a Shiraz Mataro from Rutherglen? Where??? It's in Victoria, Australia, and I happened to visit last week. I didn't try this, but I doubt that Mac Forbes would turn out anything less than a good wine.

There's also a recommendation from Bulgaria and a Pinot Blanc for the more adventurous.

Something for the weekend - Indie

Something for the weekend - Indie | Wine in the World | Scoop.it

The Independent's wine picks of the weeks include one that I really enjoy.

Gavi is often overlooked in the UK market. It's lightly aromatic with a crisp acidity that makes it very food friendly.

I've tried this Tesco one before and it was actually quite good. At under £6 per bottle it's a bargain.

A A Badenhorst Secateurs Chenin Blanc 2011 @ Swig

A A Badenhorst Secateurs Chenin Blanc 2011 @ Swig | Wine in the World | Scoop.it

Adi Badenhorst is a man I admire and if you're a fan of craft,  graft and Chenin Blanc then you might want to give his "Secateurs" a try.

He might look like a bit of an old hippy and joke about the level of family involvement in his winery, but Adi is a character and so are his wines. If you're fed up of super-clean, bland and characterless wines then it's time to give something like this a go - and at only £10 a bottle it should suit the wallet nicely.
