Threatened Canada lynx may be on rise in Vermont's Northeast Kingdom (12/28/13 12:08 pm) | Advocating for Wildlife | Scoop.it
MONTPELIER, Vermont - Although rarely seen, the Canada lynx appears to be increasing in number in Vermont's Northeast Kingdom, an encouraging sign for a species the state considers endangered.
Candy Copeland's insight:

..."In the last century, the elusive animals were pushed out of the state — and many other parts of the country — largely because of the destruction of their forest habitat."

They don't mention the impacts of trapping for their furs has had on the Species.

Groups clash in court over Columbia River Basin salmon plan

Groups clash in court over Columbia River Basin salmon plan | Advocating for Wildlife | Scoop.it
(AP) — Federal authorities defended their latest plan for mitigating damage to salmon and steelhead imperiled by hydroelectric dams in the Columbia River Basin. In oral arguments in U.S. District Court on Tuesday, the government argued its approach is resulting in more salmon surviving at dams, juvenile fish migrating faster to the ocean and record numbers of fish returning to restored habitat. True criticized the uncertainty of habitat restoration, which is the plan's main tool to improve fis

Candy Copeland's insight:

How can the EPA do anything, especially in view of the fact that our current Congress is basically handcuffing them making it nearly impossible for them to do their job of protecting the Citizens of the US from harmful chemicals and substances.  They get the lowest funding amount, their staff numbers have been taken back to what they were in 1998!  Smacks of political favoring of the big chemical companies and I say WE THE CITIZENS ARE MORE IMPORTANT.  You'd think they don't have family that will have to live here and deal with the decisions they're making now.  That fast buck, or political favor is more important right now.  They are ruining our Country and not enough people care enough to stand up and say something to fight them.
