Scientists create CHEMICAL 'brain': Giant network links all known compounds and reactions

Scientists create CHEMICAL 'brain': Giant network links all known compounds and reactions | Wiki_Universe | Scoop.it

Northwestern University scientists have connected 250 years of organic chemical knowledge into one giant computer network -- a chemical Google on steroids. This "immortal chemist" will never retire and take away its knowledge but instead will continue to learn, grow and share.

A decade in the making, the software optimizes syntheses of drug molecules and other important compounds, combines long (and expensive) syntheses of compounds into shorter and more economical routes and identifies suspicious chemical recipes that could lead to chemical weapons.

Mind Mapping: Online Collaboration Tool

Mind Mapping: Online Collaboration Tool | Wiki_Universe | Scoop.it

Although this article focuses on education, mindmapping can be a great planning and coordination tool for any kind of group project, whether collaborators are physically copresent or geographically separated. -- Howard

"Online collaboration has become very popular in both education and business. We now have the ability to easily and freely share all file types using different cloud based platforms. People working collectively on a project or assignment no longer need to be in the same room or even in the same country for that matter.

Collaborative platforms have enabled educators to create online learning environments where students can benefit from sharing ideas and communicating with each other, their mentors and external organizations."

Virtual Worlds (Slowly!) Emerging from Disillusionment Trough In Gartner's 2012 Hype Cycle

Virtual Worlds (Slowly!) Emerging from Disillusionment Trough In Gartner's 2012 Hype Cycle | Wiki_Universe | Scoop.it

«Influential research firm Gartner recently posted its 2012 "hype cycle" chart of emerging technologies, and there's a small but significant change: Virtual worlds, which were at the very bottom of the Trough of Disillusionment in Gartner's 2011 report, are now positioned at the start to the Slope of Enlightenment, and designated as being 5 to 10 years from reaching the Plateau of Productivity (i.e. when they become mainstream).»

This can be good news for writers who are already using virtual worlds to write and promote their books. All they have to do is wait '5 to 10 years'... :P
