Applying Social Network Analysis to data use

Applying Social Network Analysis to data use | Wiki_Universe | Scoop.it

Here’s a video of Alan Daly discussing his paper exploring social network analysis (SNA) and its potential to illuminate issues in school data use. This past summer I attended the LINKS Center for Social Network Analysis workshop, and it was a blast. I highly recommend it. The instructors and gaggles of TAs were all very talented and patient.

Designing Business Collaboration for a Knowledge Economy

Designing Business Collaboration for a Knowledge Economy | Wiki_Universe | Scoop.it

The age of information is upon us, and much has been made of the great improvements to communication, collaboration, and business process efficiency as we transform from an industrial- to a knowledge-based economy.

However, despite all the rapid technological changes of the past 20 years, we are still at the very beginnings of the knowledge work era.

SimAula Project- Learning Through Simulation And Excitement - Virtual Learning Environment

SimAula Project- Learning Through Simulation And Excitement - Virtual Learning Environment | Wiki_Universe | Scoop.it
All teacher education programs require teacher candidates to have in-school practicum experiences. Placing student teachers in schools is not always easy, however, and it is getting harder. It thus becomes more difficult to find proper schools for the teacher candidates to practice teaching.

SimAULA will setup a virtual practicum in the form of a three-dimensional, online world adapted in the context of teaching-learning in school. Both active teachers and teachers-to be will interact with avatars, develop lesson plans, and teach in the virtual classrooms. In order to provide interesting and effective learning activities, this project will focus on the pedagogical side based on the knowledge of teachers and pedagogic and psychology experts to define the behaviour model of the virtual students and create simulations and situations that are both pedagogically and educational sound.

UMPI OpenU - University of Maine at Presque Isle | Wiki_Universe | Scoop.it

The University of Maine at Presque Isle has taken a bold, new step into the world of online learning with its UMPI OpenU project.

UMPI OpenU is a unique effort to allow learners of all ages, and from all over the world, to participate in specific UMPI online courses for free, as long as they aren’t seeking college credit. Unlike other online courses around the country being offered for free, each participant in UMPI OpenU gets full access to the designated online courses and all of the materials related to them, including direct interaction with the instructors responsible for designing and delivering the courses as well as the UMPI students who are taking the courses for credit.

5 ways to get the most out of LinkedIn

5 ways to get the most out of LinkedIn | Wiki_Universe | Scoop.it

"I'd say I get about 10 requests each week to join someone's network on LinkedIn. And while it's the place to be when looking for a job or to otherwise connect professionally, many people use it only to store their resumes. Yes, it's good for that. But it's also good for finding experts and ideas, meeting people in groups, staying in touch with friends and colleagues and increasing your Klout score. Problem is, many people don't realize that power is at their fingertips."

Systems Thinking Part 1: Philosophy - Teen Skepchick

Systems Thinking Part 1: Philosophy - Teen Skepchick | Wiki_Universe | Scoop.it

"It became apparent to me in my last year of undergraduate that both of these activities are necessary for rigorous social science, activism and real world interventions to be approached successfully. Systems philosophy and methodology, now the focus of my master’s degree, incorporate and discuss these three romantic ideas in a way that makes them substantially more pragmatic and meaningful in discussions. A combination of all three – epistemology, methodology and practice are required for an approach that is holistic itself."

How Wikis Can Help Schools Organize Their Content

How Wikis Can Help Schools Organize Their Content | Wiki_Universe | Scoop.it

"Students and teachers are embracing web 2.0 technologies with fervour but administrators are not, even though these remarkable tools can provide much needed cost-saving capabilities. This phenomenon is understandable, because older office tools, an already overburdened staff, and the reluctance to change the way of doing things all discourage jumping into untested waters. However, it is clear that administrative wikis can provide school administrations with radically improved documentation processes. In fact, they can begin to make schools the very platforms that students and teachers need to succeed in their technical endeavours. Why not reinvent schools as technology centres? After all, they are already theatres, restaurants, sports complexes, and more. The road starts with the administrative wiki."

Cynefin framework - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Cynefin framework - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia | Wiki_Universe | Scoop.it

The Cynefin ( /ˈkʌnɨvɪn/) framework is used to describe problems, situations and systems. It provides a typology of contexts that guides what sort of explanations and/or solutions may apply. Cynefin is a Welsh word, which is commonly translated into English as 'habitat' or 'place', although this fails to convey its full meaning. A more complete translation of the word would be that it conveys the sense that we all have multiple pasts of which we can only be partly aware: cultural, religious, geographic, tribal etc. The term was chosen by the Welsh scholar Dave Snowden to illustrate the evolutionary nature of complex systems, including their inherent uncertainty. The name is a reminder that all human interactions are strongly influenced and frequently determined by our experiences, both through the direct influence of personal experience, and through collective experience, such as stories or music.
