Over the last several years, the popularity of social media has reached incredible heights—and 2013 was the best year thus far., and many of the mind boggling social media statistics from the past year prove this.

In 2013, 95 percent of Facebook users logged into their accounts daily. One of Facebook’s main competitors, Twitter, reached 231.7 million active users. Google+ wants to get on their levels, and it does add 25,000 new users every day.

(from the Curator of IoT & Wearables): We've stayed away from many academic's re: how to enable students to be better at problem solving and innovating, (because most academics think they already know what innovation and complex problem solving is all about and well not to put too fine a point on it they just don't),  

 

We do take issue wtih the status quo of academia.  Obviously we have strongly held views on engineering education and problem solving / innovaiton, but they are warranted and justified.

 

We see most academic work in the area of innovating, problem solving / problem finding and more specifically in complex problem solving in the domain of engineering  to be broken., biased and prejudicial  

 

Nonetheless we do give credit in this post by Mia MacMeekin as it is a move in the right direction, we just don't see it going far enough to make problem solving and problem finding cool or effective enough for students to really be able to do anything significant with when it comes time for them to contribute.  Sorry we call it as we see it..

Often, the best way to reach a huge goal is to break it down into small, less intimidating goals.

 

To help small businesses tackle the daunting task of developing a social media presence (without feeling overwhelmed), Intuit has created a "Path to Social Success in 2013" infographic.

 

The 12-month plan divides the goal of achieving social success into quarters, each focusing on a specific goal:

First quarter: Take social media inventory.Second quarter: Work on relationships.Third quarter: Integrate everything.Fourth quarter: Look backward, then forward. 

For each quarter, Intuit then lists big ideas for each month to reach that goal.

For example, the first quarter is about taking social media inventory, so January is dedicated to assessing your social fitness; February, to revisiting your social goals; and March, to establishing ways to measure success, such as number of followers and fans, traffic to website, social mentions across platforms, share of social conversations, and social influence.

I love that point Martin! I think people call it social because of the personal element to it as opposed to advertising and things like that, especially because it's so interactive in nature. Do you have a suggestion as to what to change the name to?
