Over the last ten years, Semco has grown steadily, quadrupling its revenues and expanding from 450 to 1,300 employees. More important, we’ve extended our range dramatically. At the start of the ’90s, Semco was a manufacturer, pure and simple. We made things like pumps, industrial mixers, and dishwashers. But over the course of the decade, we diversified successfully into higher-margin services. Last year, almost 75% of our business was in services. Now we’re stretching out again—this time into e-business. We expect that more than a quarter of our revenues next year will come from Internet initiatives, up from nothing just one year ago. We never planned to go digital, but we’re going digital nonetheless.

According to Clayton Christensen, co-author of The Innovator’s DNA, questioning is one of five skills demonstrated by innovators.  Thank goodness because now I can be ok with the fact that I find myself wandering around the grocery store analyzing the origins of products or questioning the intent of various marketing strategies.  Last week I was stumped by a good one!

Premier fait important, Pinterest est un réseau quasiment exclusivement américain et féminin. Côté européen le profil de l’utilisateur est bien différent :

>> 12 millions d’utilisateurs aux US dont 83% de femmes,

>> 200 000 utilisateurs en Angleterre dont 56 % d’hommes.

Et lorsque l’on voit la différence entre les sujets traités sur les boards des utilisateurs UK vs US, on comprend bien vite qu’alors que le réseau attire principalement des femmes de 25-44 parlant lifestyle, entertainment ou shopping aux US, le réseau est en Angleterre repris par les marketeux, webeux et autres représentants des médias et de la communication.

I also play the violin, I’m developing a television pilot, and I occasionally design a website or two.

Innovation happens when you take knowledge from one field and use it to solve a problem in a completely unrelated field.

To stifle your puttylike nature is a crime, not just in terms of limiting your own potential, but to society as a whole. As multipotentialites, we must use our gift to innovate. It’s in our genes.
