Hip-hop collective Black Hippy -- comprised of Kendrick Lamar,
Malik Parker's insight:

Kendrick Lamar is not only a great rapper but a stand-up guy also. Two of the biggest label collaborations Aftermath Records and Interscope Records were looking to sign him. Most people would have taken the deal with no problems. Kendrick told the labels you cant get me without my whole music group "Black Hippy". Both record labels said if thats the case then we will sign everyone. He could have easily looked out for himself but he brought the people that starved with him to eat, and personally I commend him for that.

Kendrick Lamar Boycotts GQ ‘Men of the Year’ Party Over ‘Offensive’ Interview

Kendrick Lamar Boycotts GQ ‘Men of the Year’ Party Over ‘Offensive’ Interview | Who is Kendrick Lamar? Star on the rise. | Scoop.it
Malik Parker's insight:

Kendrick Lamar was voted GQ man of the year. In the GQ magazine article they mainly talk about his discipline. Writer Steve Marsh states that in the time he spent with kendrick he didn't see him take one drink  or give any girl the time of day. The artist is focused on his craft and his craft only, maybe that is why GQ called him the next King of Hip Hop.

Kendrick Lamar also says he is "trying to murder" Big K.R.I.T., Pusha, T, A$AP Rocky, Jay Electronica, Tyler, the Creator and Mac Miller on Big Sean's "Control." Lamar also crowns himself "the king of New York" and "king of the Coast" on the track.

Malik Parker's insight:

The young artist made sure everyone knew his name after he shoked the industry with his verse on Big Seans "Control". It is a new hit single by Big Sean Ft. Kendrick Lamar, and Jay Electronica. On this track Kendrick called out the top rappers in the game by name. What he did was bring real Hip-Hop back. In my opinion this is exactly what the industry needed, rappers in this era started to get comfortable and lost their hunger. Leave it to Mr.Lamar to give them a wake up call.

I am glad that Kendrick dropped his control verse. He went back to the main essence of hip-hop that everyone fell in love with. But at the same time he shouldn't have disrespected an entire coast, nevertheless he killed the game.

PROs: Brought hip-hop back to its original state and he made people want to rap again.

CONs: He stirred up alot of people and caused up roar and beef as well.

I really like what Kendrick is doing here. He alone brought back the competivie side of hip hop back but without the violence. The thing about Kendrick doing this is that a lot of people recognize Kendrick as one of the best rappers out right now currently in his prime.

Pros: Bring back the competiton in Hip-Hop a lot of people have already responded to Kendrick "Control" verse.

Cons: It can end his career if he cant keep up witht he hype and pressure of the talent that's going to be coming after him. Like how MCs feel from grace before such as Ja Rule to 50 and T.I and Lil Flip.

Marcellus Gail's curator insight, January 19, 2014 9:25 PM

Slightly new rapper (Kendrick Lamar) is calling people out on song with him, Big Sean, and Jay Electronica. He uses verbal assault to make the world feel what he is feeling and it works. After the song was dropped, the raido went nuts.
