Futures Education : Teaching and Learning about the Future - World Future Society

Futures Studies as it has evolved since the early 1970s is both a discipline and a meta-discipline. It is a set of skills and applied methodologies that can be learned—in impressively diverse ways—and it is a dynamic way of coming to understand the world that is practical and empowering. As Alvin Toffler wrote in 1974, “A focus on the future is relevant to all learners, regardless of age.”

For this special report, we called for essays from futurists who have experienced futures education, be it in a K-12 class project, a professional certificate program, a workshop, or a full degree program. We received an overwhelming response from students, educators, and several people who have been on both sides of the learning and teaching experience. We hope readers will continue to share their experiences with us—and with tomorrow’s futures learners.

Thierry Belleguic's curator insight, December 8, 2015 5:33 PM

In 2040, one generation from now, I will be more than 70 years old and hopefully surrounded by my first great-grandchildren. What I’d like to share with you this morning is how I imagine [*] the Urban Commons will be by then – and how I’d like my grand- and great-grandchildren and me to enjoy them and care for. Actually, first of all: While rethinking the issue of this conference, I realized that it should read: Imagining the “Rurban Commons.” Because this seems to be one of the most important patterns: Interconnecting Urban and Rural. The so called Urban Agriculture or rural Maker-Spaces like the OTELOs throughout Austria are pioneering this inter-connection.

Love it or hate it, the world's religions are in no danger of disappearing any time soon. But that doesn't mean religious and spiritual sensibilities aren't going to evolve. By day, he's a mild-mannered Assistant Professor of English at New Mexico State University, and by night he's a black-garbed Zen priest at the Zen Center of Las Cruces.

[PDF] The future of jobs - WorldEconomicForum | What's up ? | Scoop.it

Disruptive changes to business models will have a profound mpact on the employment landscape over the coming years. Many of the major drivers of transformation currently affecting global industries are expected to have a significant impact on jobs, ranging from significant job creation to job displacement, and from heightened labour productivity to widening skills gaps. In many industries and countries, the most in-demand occupations or specialties did not exist 10 or even five years ago, and the pace of change is set to accelerate. By one popular estimate, 65% of children entering primary school today will ultimately end up working in completely new job types that don’t yet exist.

AGI Foresight Report 2020

AGI Foresight Report 2020 | What's up ? | Scoop.it
Société Française de Prospective's insight:

The AGI Foresight Report 2020 gives insight into the issues we believe will have a significant impact on our economy, environment and society over the next five years. The purpose of the Report is to both observe and challenge the current role of Geographic Information (GI) in relation to these issues.

The Report highlights five key themes that are of relevance not only to the GI industry, but to anyone with a vested interest in how technology and information will change our world and businesses in the next five years. These five themes – Open, Big Data, BIM and Future Cities, innovative technologies and policy – form the backbone of our Report, bringing together papers from experts across industries and disciplines.

They show that the GI community can, and must, play a big part in helping us to understand and maximise benefits from these areas, and meet head on the challenges and opportunities the next five years will bring.
