Visual recording is similar to audio recording: they both use the same concept that is : recording. One uses voice and the other uses visual cues like diagrams, charts, lines, arrows...etc. Think about visual recording as visual mind mapping.
This is Visual Recording and NOT (in this case) Visual Facilitation
This is a BRILLIANT screencast by Rachel Smith ... I'm envious and plan to learn this skill as soon as possible.
Please also visit the video on YouTube and read the comments ... apparently the version she used of "Brushes" is no longer available.

VideoNotes allows you to load a YouTube video on the left side of your screen and on the right side of the screen VideoNotes gives you a notepad to type on. VideoNotes integrates with your Google Drive account. By integrating with Google Drive VideoNotes allows you to share your notes and collaborate on your notes just as you can do with a Google Document.
It’s as simple as this: sign in with a Google account (VideoNotes uses Google Drive for storage) and then paste in the URL for a YouTube or Coursera video. Then as it plays you can start making notes on the right-hand side of the screen.
The clever bit is that as you click on previous notes you’ve made, the video will jump to that point, making this a really useful tool for navigating documentaries, study guides and other long, involved videos.
Ask3 – An iPad App for Creating Flipped Video Lessons Your Students Can Actually Respond To
Allows teachers & students to quickly ask & answer each other's questions with text & their own videos. This FREE app turns each iPad into a whiteboard that can record voice & visuals for instant classroom sharing.
This is an exciting new App for the iPad ... and amazingly it is free.
I can see uses for creating Flipped Classroom resources ... for any kind of screencasting ... for digital storytelling ... and as an assessment platform.
