How the high street helped N Brown Group sell more online | What's in an Omnichannel-Commerce everywhere | Scoop.it
Ray Fowler's insight:

Amazon take note. You could say this is a turn up for the books. But why not; if the consumer is still taking to the physical stores why not take the offer also to them. Clearly evident that N Brown are having some success. If the real darling like ASOS opened in Oxford Street it might rip apart Primark's prime trading.

Hunting for Luxury, Retail Giant Buys Saks

Hunting for Luxury, Retail Giant Buys Saks | What's in an Omnichannel-Commerce everywhere | Scoop.it
Saks Inc. has agreed to sell itself to the Hudson’s Bay Company for about $2.4 billion in cash, uniting the storied luxury retailer with Lord & Taylor and the Canadian chain Hudson’s Bay.
Ray Fowler's insight:

I read this article and a comment made me realise just how out of touch some retail analysts are ...........“No tourist wakes up in New York and says: ‘You know what I’m going to do now? I’m going to log on to the Internet and shop,’ ” said Faye Landes, a retail analyst at Cowen." ...........

On a recent conference trip to NY I was with colleagues from Russia and UK and all of them had made eCommerce purchases while in NY and had either arranged collection in the store or delivery to the hotel. Some hotels in NY are charging $5 handling fees for parcel deliveries but as you get free shipping it balances out.

So when retail analysts make comments like this they are missing the point of a connected experience in retail. the landscape is changing and fast.

Off to London shortly and all the orders are placed for suits, shoes, shirts and a few other luxuries but only with those retailers that offer collection or delivery - after all I cannot waste all my time shopping. Those retailers not adopting this change will surely miss this opportunity and hen maybe Mr Richard Baker of the Hudson Bay Company can snap them up at a knock down price

How Waitrose is using omnichannel in a strategy aimed at setting itself apart

How Waitrose is using omnichannel in a strategy aimed at setting itself apart | What's in an Omnichannel-Commerce everywhere | Scoop.it
Ray Fowler's insight:

This is partially what sets UK retailing out front. The grocers are competing for a reducing £ and thereby the point of difference or a truly connected experience is what will win through. The largest example of this: Morrisons choice over ten years ago not to invest in "digital" is merely part of their death knell. I trust now that they will adopt like Waitrose who accepted this change and building a stronger and loyal customer base

Everything You Learned in 2013 is Still Relevant, Just Amplified

Smart marketers will benefit from keeping a close eye on their link profiles, and performing periodic audits to identify and remove inbound links built unnaturally. High quality content investments will remain critical. A solid SEO performance in 2014 is going to be built on a foundation of really understanding what happened in 2013, and what these changes mean both strategically and tactically for SEO. SEO really has changed in critical ways.

Content Marketing is Bigger than Ever

From an SEO perspective, Google will be looking at companies that have robust content marketing efforts as a sign that they're the kind of business Google wants to support. What changes you need to make in 2014 depends largely on where your company stands now in relation to an active content marketing strategy.

Social Media Plays an Increasingly Visible Role

Today, diversification is a major trend: depending on who you're targeting, it's no longer enough to be active on a single network. In fact, The Content Marketing Institute recently released a study that the most successful B2B marketers are active on an average of seven networks.

Invest in Google+

In addition to strengthening your overall social media marketing position, it's going to be absolutely critical that you are investing in your Google+ presence. Moz's most recent study of ranking factors confirms that Google+ is playing an increasingly significant role in a solid SEO ranking.

Hummingbird Was Just the Tip of the Mobile Iceberg

2014 will be the year of mobile SEO. Hummingbird was just the very small visible tip of a very large iceberg as Google struggles to respond to the rapidly shifting landscape where half of all Americans own smartphones and at least one-third own tablets.  Properties that you're trying to rank need to be designed first for mobile and then scaled up for the big screen. If you don't have a mobile-optimized website, this needs to be your top priority in terms of SEO and design investments for 2014.

The Long Versus Short Debate

Google values both expertise and value. As a result, we've seen a trend where the "minimum desirable length" for text-based content has shifted from something in the range of 550 words to articles in the range of 1000-plus words.

Advertising and PPC has a Shifted Relationship with SEO

More SEO budgets may be driven toward PPC simply because access to the data may otherwise be restricted. It's also possible that we'll see the release of a premium Google product to give us access to that data through another channel from Google in the year ahead.

Guest Blogging Remains One of the Most Effective Tactics, With a Caveat

Guest blogging has exploded in the past year, and it's going to remain one of the most effective means of building quality inbound links, traffic, and branding exposure in 2014. However, it's absolutely critical that you're creating high quality content, and using extremely stringent criteria when selecting your target sites.

IT departments won't exist in five years | What's in an Omnichannel-Commerce everywhere | Scoop.it
IT departments are quickly becoming consultancies in companies increasingly driven by consumer technology, and the control they once had over tech use is quickly dissipating.

John Lewis Director Peter Ruis: Physical Stores are Integral Part of 'Omni-Channel' Shopping Experience

John Lewis Director Peter Ruis: Physical Stores are Integral Part of 'Omni-Channel' Shopping Experience | What's in an Omnichannel-Commerce everywhere | Scoop.it

Brand and buying director Ruis was speaking at Samsung Retail Summit 2013.

Ray Fowler's insight:

John Lewis are getting it right with a fully integrated model. The Omni Channel is clearly working for them driving even more revenue through the physical and virtual doors. What Peter Ruis talks about here is not rocket science and when you look at how they integrate their new store openings such as Exter into the model it clearly delivers. Now the challenge for them will be can they offer this full Omni Integrated approach into their new store within Heathrow Airport airside. I would love to order on line and collect at the airport especially if I am a tourist or live outside the EU (VAT zone).
