L’imprimante 3D passe au béton à prise rapide

L’imprimante 3D passe au béton à prise rapide | Discover Sigalon Valley - Where the Tags are the Topics | Scoop.it

Ether Wave Propaganda is a history of science blog that specializes in historiographical issues. It’s a niche blog aimed at people working in the academic disciplines of the History of Science and Science and Technology Studies. Those looking for general science blogs are welcome to follow along and comment, but may find some of the posts a little esoteric.  We do have a “primer” (formerly “hump-day history”) series designed to offer a sophisticated but accessible introduction to various historical topics.  The archive of primers can be found on the “Finding Aid” page.

The New York Times innovation report is great, but it left out one very important thing

The New York Times innovation report is great, but it left out one very important thing | Discover Sigalon Valley - Where the Tags are the Topics | Scoop.it
The 97-page internal report on what the New York Times needs to do online contains many things of value, but it glosses over one important point: the way the NYT does journalism has to change, not just how it is promoted or displayed

A shockwave hit the media industry in May, when an internal “innovation report”prepared for New York Times executives leaked to BuzzFeed. The report makes for fascinating reading, in part because it is a snapshot of a massive media entity that is caught in the throes of wrenching change, unsure how to proceed. But while it contained many things of value, it glossed over one of the most important factors for the paper’s success — and that is whether the content itself, the journalism that theNew York Times produces, needs to change.

Israeli Officer's Insane Justification for Killing a 13-Year-Old Girl

Israeli Officer's Insane Justification for Killing a 13-Year-Old Girl | Discover Sigalon Valley - Where the Tags are the Topics | Scoop.it
Radio exchange contradicts army version of Gaza killing.

An Israeli army officer who repeatedly shot a 13-year-old Palestinian girl in Gaza dismissed a warning from another soldier that she was a child by saying he would have killed her even if she was three years old.

The officer, identified by the army only as Captain R, was charged this week with illegal use of his weapon, conduct unbecoming an officer and other relatively minor infractions after emptying all 10 bullets from his gun's magazine into Iman al-Hams when she walked into a "security area" on the edge of Rafah refugee camp last month.

Content Curation Tools: 21 Criteria To Select And Evaluate Your Ideal One

Content Curation Tools: 21 Criteria To Select And Evaluate Your Ideal One | Discover Sigalon Valley - Where the Tags are the Topics | Scoop.it

Excerpt from article written and curated by Master Curator Robin Good and published on MasterNewMedia:
"Many such curation tools also appear to be very similar to one another, especially if evaluated exclusively from the type of news streams or visual collections that can be produced with them.

The most limiting factor of all, in making an effective selection when it comes to content curation tools is the lack of a proper evaluation framework, identifying the specific requirements and needs that need to be met by the content curation tool to be selected.

I am now publicly sharing this list of selection criteria, complemented by relevant questions to be asked when verifying the availability of these features to help both individuals, small organizations and companies evaluate better, and in a more systematic fashion, their ideal content curation toolset.

Here the features-list, organized into 21 groups. (*I have marked with HS those features relevant only to hosted content curation services.)
1. Import and Export functions
2. Content Organization
3. Clipping Abilities
4. Integrated Search
5. Content Monitoring - News Discovery
6. Filtering
7. Display formats
8. Arrangement
9. Navigation
10.Editing and Formatting
11.Ownership - HS
12.Collaboration - HS

14.Intelligence - Memory

17.Distribution options
18.SEO - HS
19.Reach (for hosted curation platforms) - HS
20.Integrations - API - HS
21.Branding - White Label - Design Customization - HS..."

Each group is analyzed with more informations. Read full, useful and interesting article here:

Indepenent historian Paul Lucier’s “The Professional and the Scientist in Nineteenth-Century America,” Isis 100 (2009): 699-732, presents an excellent overview of the place of different scientific activities in that milieu, the conceptual vocabulary and nomenclature with which those activities were routinely described, and how those descriptions changed with time.  The article engages actively with other portrayals in the historiographical literature from the past century, and presents new materials and arguments.  Stylistically, it is an exemplary work of scholarship.

The album is dead, long live playlists | Harriet Walker | Discover Sigalon Valley - Where the Tags are the Topics | Scoop.it
Harriet Walker: There’s plenty to mourn with the passing of music albums, but the instant gratification of digital playlists is now king

The rise of digital music and streaming has many crimes to answer for. Like a hardened assassin, it does what it has to and gets better at it all the time, seemingly unaware of the musicians and fans left in its wake. The latest victim, and perhaps the most depressing when it comes to the slow but steady bludgeoning of creativity within the field, is the album. Though fans cleave to it as a format, producers, presenters and industry pen-pushers know the writing is on the wall. Lana Del Rey’s latest topped the UK charts with only 48,000 in first-week sales under her belt.
