Singularitarianism - Wikipedia

Singularitarianism - Wikipedia | Discover Sigalon Valley - Where the Tags are the Topics | Scoop.it

Singularitarianism is a technocentric ideology and social movement defined by the belief that a technological singularity—the creation of a superintelligence—will likely happen in the medium future, and that deliberate action ought to be taken to ensure that the Singularity benefits humans.
Singularitarians are distinguished from other futurists who speculate on a technological singularity by their belief that the Singularity is not only possible, but desirable if guided prudently. Accordingly, they might sometimes dedicate their lives to acting in ways they believe will contribute to its rapid yet safe realization.[1]
Some critics argue that Singularitarianism is a new religious movement promising salvation in a technological utopia.[2] Others, however, are concerned that the interest in the Singularity by corporate and military interests provides a clue as to the real direction and social implication of emerging technologies celebrated by Singularitarians.

5 Cool Features That Prove Evernote Is Still A Kick-Ass Service

5 Cool Features That Prove Evernote Is Still A Kick-Ass Service | Discover Sigalon Valley - Where the Tags are the Topics | Scoop.it

May 12, 2012

With all the hoopla surrounding Google Drive, and everyone going nuts over Dropbox, I think one other service is being sorely neglected – Evernote.  Our Evernote coverage has been rather sketchy of late, and I think that’s a shame because in my opinion, Evernote is one of the best services out there on the Internet.  It deserves to be appreciated more.

So to get our coverage going again (and as a buildup to an Evernote manual which I am about to begin writing for MakeUseOf Guides), here are some handy tips that I have picked up over the past 6 months or so, as I have become more and more addicted to the service. Especially because of its desktop software and web clipper which allows you to construct your own private scrapbook of links, images and files, all searchable and taggable. I don’t normally pay for premium services but I opened my wallet and upgraded my Evernote account (which is a big deal for a tight Scotsman like me).  The moths hiding inside my wallet were startled to see daylight.

The so-called “Monsanto Protection Act” finds itself under attack in the United States Senate.

Anonymously slipped into a spending package in March that averted a government shutdown and signed into law by President Obama, the “farmer assurance provision” limits the ability of judges to stop Monsanto or the farmers it sells genetically modified seeds from growing or harvesting those crops even if courts find evidence of potential health risks.

How To Try Google Chrome OS On Your PC

How To Try Google Chrome OS On Your PC | Discover Sigalon Valley - Where the Tags are the Topics | Scoop.it

How many times have you been approached by a friend or family member who says that they really have very little use for a big, powerful computer, since all they do with it is check email and maybe read a couple of websites every day? The fact is, there area  whole lot of people that fall into this category. Computers just aren’t a big part of their lives, it’s as simple as that. What they really need is an ultra-simple computer that does absolutely nothing else except provides the user with an instant link to the Internet where they can do what they want to do, without dealing with all of the nuances and problems that a full-fledged computer operating system brings.

This is the niche that devices like the Chromebook attempt to solve, through the use of an operating system building entirely around the Chrome browser, and the concept of an operating system fully integrated with the Internet. Meaning, absolutely everything that’s done – things like checking email, banking, and all apps that are run – is done right through the browser, and that’s it.

Making a Killing: The Untold Story of Psychotropic Drugging - Full Movie (Documentary)

Uploaded on Dec 13, 2010

This video provides the facts about psychotropic drugs and the huge profits they create for the pharmaceutical industry. These drugs are not safe and have not been on the market long enough to provide sufficient long term studies regarding their effects. These drugs do cause addiction, however most "doctors" would call this dependence because you do not have to take an increasing dose over time. They are completely fine with you being addicted to the same amount of any given drug on a daily basis. Over half of the people that commit suicide in the United States are prescribed to psychotropic drugs. (Ex: Paxil (Paroxetine), Zoloft (Sertraline), Prozac, Wellbutrin (Bupropion), Effexor, Seroquil, Ultram (Tramadol), etc.)

Monsanto More Powerful Than The U.S. Government

You may already be aware of what this rider consists of, but in case not you will likely be blown away by the tenacity of Monsanto lobbyist goons.
