Differences were found in how the three segments ranked core skills. Attorneys believe that oral communication is the most important skill, because they need to report their findings in a court of law. CPAs believe that critical thinking is most important with written and oral communication second and third. Academics agreed with CPAs saying critical and strategical thinking are a strong skill but rated auditing skills and investigative ability as second and third.

During cases you may also need to interview people who may have knowledge of the issue. The examiner must be good with interviewing to gain trust of interviewees and get out as much information as possible.
