Activated alumina balls have good adsorbing capacity, basically this desiccant is used in water and air filters. It is efficient in adsorbing odor, gases, plastic fumes, bacteria and many more.
For the starters, silica gel is a synthetic amorphous, porous or granulated product. It has a hard irregular bead crystal appearance. It is used for various applications in varying industries. It is created by the chemical reaction between Sodium Silicate and Sulphuric acid.
Advantages of using silica gel as a desiccants:Silica gel is non-flammable, non-toxic, non-corrosive and odorless.
Types of product that can be protected with this gel:Storage containers, tool boxes, cargo on boats and RVs as well as in safes and containers.
Though silica gel is non-toxic, the substance that is added to it to make it change color which might be poisonous. Thus, it is not completely non-toxic when ingested.
For one liter volume container, half gram of silica gel is required to keep it safe. Change in relative humidity can also affect the absorption capacity. If the relative humidity is 20%, then the gel can absorb 10% of its weight. If the relative humidity is 50% or 90%, then the gel can absorb about 23% or 36% of its weight respectively.
When it comes to using an easy desiccant which is weightless and can be reused, then silica gel is the right choice. It can be used in many industries. It is also available in different packing sizes, enabling it to be used in different packages. Some companies prefer colored gel to indicate the presence of humidity and some prefer white silica gel.
