If you can do it with paper why use a digital alternative? Because for some of students, it makes the difference between engagement and being switched off.  Of couse finding the activities that you just can't do with paper...that's the real power of a digital solution.

Jennifer Turner's curator insight, February 24, 2014 1:40 PM

Don't be afraid of social media when you can learn how to use it in your classroom.  This reasource is a great find for educators that may want to use social media but just do not know where to incorporate it.

Though I do not have a Twitter, I find this very interesting.  I think that if teachers did end up using this the kids who do have a twitter would get more involved in the assignment, but I'm not sure what they'd do with the kids like me would do during this lesson.  Overall,  I think this is a really cool and unique idea that could probably done with other social networking sites aswell.

G+ is catching up big time for many reasons.  Among these reasons is the Hangout integration.

We just facilitated a remote 1.5 day leadership development session with Hangouts and it was fantastic.

Google is sticking to their strategy and their value is starting to win people over.  I was never a fan and, through valuable features, I am changing my perspective on the suite of offerings.

This is a relevant infographic.

Twitter is a fantastic tool. I'm using with my class. We have a secure account so not everyone can see us but we can see that is happening in the world. The children love sharing their work on Twitter. We are linked with parents and other classes. The discussions we have around approriate material to put on Twitter and who we should accept as our followers is a real world experience for the students

Do We Need Social Media Education in Schools Now?

Do We Need Social Media Education in Schools Now? | Wepyirang | Scoop.it
Is it time for social media education in our schools? The recent Manti Te'o hoax is only the tip of the iceberg. He knew how to use social media, but didn’t understand its power.

There is an urgent need to educate students at all levels on the responsible use of social media. It’s time to help students navigate this unfiltered world of anonymous faces. When searching for a curriculum for social media education.

Teaching students how to set their privacy levels on applications is only the starting line, not the finish line.

How can a social media guru help educate students, faculty & families. Social Communities

How can a social media guru help educate students, faculty & families. Social Communities | Wepyirang | Scoop.it
In today’s day and age, we often look towards the younger generations for advice on how to use technology. Having trouble with your new smart phone? Ask any teenager on the block, they can give you a demo.

Here are four things that schools can do to educate students, families and faculty on proper social media usage, and serve as a go-to resource for their communities:

1.    Set a Social Media Policy for the School

2.    Designate a Social Media “Guru”

3.    Hold Social Media Workshops for the Students and Parents

4.    Offer “Social Media Tutoring”

This is a great article and every school should follow that example!

The basic idea here is to keep your community educated and informed. The more you know and can share with your constituents, the better it is for the entire community.
